I have finally come to the conclusion I can't drink

I have a problem. I thought it was less of an issue than it is. I don't know why since I think it is the reason I am single and my career is no where near where it should be and my life is on the brink of falling apart.

But I guess I thought I could have a drink here and there and it always ends up in a disaster.

My psychologist suggested I just tell men that I am allergic to alcohol. I think that is easier for me to admit and possibly true. I feel like I would just run men off with anything else but I am just committing to that for now.

Your life is more important than men running wherever they might be running.

This site is invaluable with wisdom and advice. I'm only on day 27 but it feels so much better already, this not being my first time off the sauce.

Welcome and stay strong.

Do you have a plan?

When asked about drinking, I simply say I am training for a half-marathon. That does the trick.

Welcome to SR, PinkPanther.

I am an alcoholic and I cannot drink, either.

In the beginning of my recovery, a simple "No thanks" or "No thanks; I'll have a soda water" were my go-to lines. I still use those responses but often I find myself saying "No thanks; I don't drink; how about a soda water". It feels so good to say that!

I've used the allergic-to-alcohol excuse before. People generally don't question an allergy.

I hope our support can help you achieve lasting sobriety.

Alcohol is everywhere and once I am sober, I don't usually have a problem staying sober. But one glass turns into more about a month later. Usually linked to some kind of emotional issue.

Thanks everyone. I feel like I am on my way.
