How am I supposed to do this? My husband has been in and out of recovery for the last 4 years..now he's lost his job and is in inpatient rehab...he has only been there 4 days and he's breaking rules to contact me...do I take the calls or explain that I'd like to follow the rehab rules..I hate all the pain he's put me and the kids through and feel like his attempts to get around rules at rehab is just another selfish act..but I understand his desperation...this sucks!! |
Welcome! I haven't been to a rehab, but, I wouldn't take the calls if it was breaking rules. Have you considered AlAnon in your city, as a support for you? |
I did inpatient rehab, and part of what was so successful for me was a complete break with the outside world....although I completely understand that he probably feels lonely and scared. I would encourage him to give himself to the program. He's there to make a complete change in his life, a month out of it is well spent. |
I agree with Anna. No calls if that's the rule. You need to use this time to give yourself a break from all this too |
Yeah I too have never been in rehab or treatment but I would agree with others that the loneliness just for few wks will be beneficial for him in long run. Booze wants to kill him & will use any tricks to mask its intentions |
Welcome to SR, Meaches. I am so sorry for what brings you here. I have not been to rehab but, if no calls are allowed, I wouldn't take his calls. I imagine that those rules are established for a proven reason - that no contact is beneficial and integral to the recovery process. Wishing you the very best. |
Thanks so much for all of the thoughtful replies!!! I plan on decline the calls from that number and will contact the facility to find out what's up with how this all goes... |
