Newcomer for the nth time.

I have been trying to get and stay sober for 4 years. 6 months is the longest stretch I had in 2017. I was drinking once a month from September on, but now it’s every 2/3 weeks. I am not able to leave my house due to agoraphobia and being a caregiver. I genuinely think I hate alcohol but I’m still having the it could make me feel good like it used to fantasy. I know that avoidance and relaxation aren’t the same but I keep the same old habits of watching videos all day and avoiding cleaning when I have free time. I have an easier time staying sober when I visit this site. I hope to stay for good this time.

Glad you came back to SR. I drank after managing 6 months sober too. Its frustrating. I want to stay sober for good but I too struggle to let it go completely, even though it has stopped being in any way pleasurable. Drinking really does make everything worse.....
I look forward to reading your posts.

It took me many years to really come to grips with being truly willing. What I wanted were the consequences to go away. Eventually I became one of the sick and tired of being sick and tired.

The heck of it is - I realize today with a few years of sobriety, that I am only one drink away from never getting sober again. Scary & true........

A gratitude list helped keep me on track at times in early sobriety - a list daily of what I was truly grateful for in sobriety. Not having had a hangover in almost 4 years is a pretty good one these daze.

Don't judge yourself to harshly, but realize we don't always get more chances.
Thanks for the post

Best,
Fly
