Starting New Job Tomorrow

Starting a new job tomorrow. Its in a field I've worked in before but I'm still kinda nervous about being thrust into the 9-5 workforce.
I lost my last job which I loved two years ago because I decided to stay home and drink instead of going to work.
I always thought I was a "functioning alcoholic" until I couldn't function anymore, the crippling anxiety withdrawals became so bad in the mornings I chose to self medicate with booze at 6 am instead of going to work.
I've been sober since mid May 2017 and feel great and am looking forward to getting back to work!

I feel ya! I was given the 'go ahead' on opening a 2nd location for one of my companies yesterday and was happy as hell! Today reality set in on what I just 'signed up for',for the next year. Like you...this is 'what I do' and I know how to do it very well... I just took a slight break to focus on staying sober.

Congratulations on your new job. They obviously think you are the best man (woman) for the job or they wouldn't have hired you over everyone else .

First day nerves are a bugger. After a few weeks you will probably feel you have been there for years! Well done for climbing out of the alcohol pit

Well done!
Congratulations.
I found easing my way back in to work was a bit daunting.
I did it, learning as I went. Day by day.
It was good therapy for me.
I found it helped me grow and gain more confidence.
The new daily challenges small as they seem now gave me a healthy feeling of satisfaction.
I tried not to think too far ahead as I knew I was still learning.
I felt I was entitled to this grace period.

I am sharper than ever at work now, everything is so much easier than when I was a drunk.

I’m sure you will be fine.
Try not to overthink it.

Good luck.

Relish in that nervous excitement. Let it move you. It's not like the debilitating fear ridden anxiety we get from drinking. It's life and opportunity unfolding before you. I'm very happy for you. Congrats on your sobriety. Very encouraging Jscatt. Good luck.
