Yellowish eyes

Hey everyone -

Pleased to report that I’m 10 days in to sobriety and feeling fantastic. No cravings, lots of energy... can’t complain.

I have a doctor’s appointment scheduled to get everything checked out - and I am certain there is some liver damage because my eyes have a slight yellow tinge, (fortunately not very noticeable), but I’m wondering for those of you who had the same, how long did it take to go away if it went away at all?

Hoping it goes away!!! I want my bright white eyes back!

Thanks all!!!

Not sure how long it takes.
But luckily for us the liver is an organ that regenerates.
If it gets scarred then that bit doesn’t mend.
I think around 30 days.
Once you’ve fixed it, try not to break it. It isn’t indestructible.
Take care

There’s more to life than poisoning ourselves and then thinking it’s ok because everyone else does it.

My brain remembers what my eyes see now, happy days.

Yellowish eyes are a scary thing. Hopefully everything works out at the doctor’s. Congrats on 10 days!

I'm sure your doctor will check liver enzymes, but also ask to have your ferritin levels checked. My enzymes were within the upper level of normal, but my ferritin level was elevated. This led to an ultrasound where I found out I had fatty liver. My liver enzymes have since dropped, but I'm still dealing with the ferritin issue.

It may be something else as well...usually if you have jaundice the eyes would be YELLOW.
Anyways, my dad has YELLOW eyes and he is a non-drinker.
I've always wondered why, but never asked.

There is also non-alcoholic fatty liver which leads to NASH.

Thanks so much! Will definitely inquire about ferritin!

Makes sense....he's never mentioned anything so I've always assumed it's nothing serious.

Hi sophiac3

I've been convinced my eyes or skin were yellow and it turned out to be the lighting in my bathroom....

Hopefully your Dr will be able to put your mind to rest about this

Sometimes eyes can be slightly bloodshot, and that can give a yellowy appearance, especially if you haven't been sleeping well. Like Dee says too certain lights can make you look very off colour.
I am sure everything will be ok.

Thanks Dee. I’ve been doing quite a bit of reading and from what I can tell my eyes aren’t considered jaundiced. There’s only a bit of yellow in the corners near my nose and I’m told that might just be age! 😂

Yep! Starting to think that might be the case.

Can’t help but be paranoid. I know I was up to no good health-wise with the drinking. Happy to be free of it.

Thank you! 😊

Ditto. But, now I swear my eyes are bloodshot which I am assuming is due to the incessant coughing I've experienced these last two weeks.

Congrats on 10 days, Sophiac!

Yellow eyes could be a direct result of your liver but there are other conditions that can result in this also. Speak to your doctor.
The good news is you have stopped drinking and it should definitely help with any of your symptoms.

Keep us posted and congratulations on 10 days!!

I used to obsess over my eyes. Depending on the lighting they would look more yellow than other times. I would open them wide and look every direction for a tint of yellow. If there wasn’t any then I could drink more because my liver was obviously fine! Isn’t it crazy how a alcohol riddled mind thinks?! I’m glad to be past that! Hopefully the dr calms your nerves!

*hugs*

I had yellow eyes after I stopped drinking/finished a binge.
By yellow, I mean Simpson's cartoon yellow.

- my liver function was terrible and bilirubin (sp) count which is supposed to hover around 30 was 1100.

Scary
