Have you ever experienced this at AA?
My first meetings were in the rooms in town. A pretty rough and ready crew there, lots of down and out, skid row newbies etc. I fit right in. It was great for identification.
There were a few recovered folk who also attended and they told me that I would wind recovery at the subeurban meetings, so I added some of them. There I found my sponsor, and all the tools for recovery. And plenty of people who were actually recovering to share my journey with.
Once recovered I went back to the rooms. This time my purpose was not identification for me, it was to carry the message.
