Nothing changes

After my last post of weening off the alcohol binge, I had 1 sober night and have drank every night since including last night no sleep and didn’t go work today.
Feel horrid.
I’ve done well not to go shop for bottle of wine today so far but stand no chance this evening, I need half a bottle to sleep then hopefully be ok tomorrow.
I HAVE to change, im ruining everything.
Not sure if this type of post is allowed in here but had to get off my chest

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

I needed a plan, an action plan to stop and stay stopped. I hope you can find your plan and stick to it.

Jimmy, you don't need half a bottle of wine to sleep. That's the AV lying to you.

You will not find the change you seek in another half bottle.

Would you stay awake all night if it helped you change? Seriously. Would you sacrifice a night of sleep to get the results you really want?

Visualize it is one year from today. You are looking in the mirror and seeing exactly the person you want to be. What did it take to become that person?

Go do those things.

This type of post is certainly allowed and welcomed Jimmy. Most of us have been exactly where you are - where drinking seems like the only option and that change is impossible. Part of it is just the withdrawals/hangover, which is only temporary of course.

I think you've also found what many of us did - that weaning/tapering is extremely difficult, if not impossible. In a sense it's a form of "moderation", which simply is not possible for us. Once we take the first drink, all bets are off. We are still responsible for our action of course, but we may behave in ways that we would not if we were not drinking.

Instead of trying to do this all yourself, why not make some real change and enlist some local help? You could go to a recovery meeting, talk with an addiction counselor or your local alcohol/drug resource center. Maybe even explore detox or talk with your doctor about it to work out a safe plan.

Either way, glad you are here and know that change is absolutely possible if you desire it.

Hi Jimmy.... I think every person in SR knows how you feel!!! I am on day five and yes I have had a sleepless almost week but with each passing day it's gets a little better and I know the alcohol is leaving my system! You have to unfortunately suffer through the uncomfortable symptoms but you can do it!!! I still feel a little groggy but I'd rather be a little tired than not completely sober!! Stay strong you got this!!

Hi Jimmy. I’m sending positive thoughts your way. You can absolutely do this if you want it! For me I had to start at my drs office because withdrawal scared me. I’m early on, but I’m glad I sat through that miserable Appointment.

We can do this!!!!

Hi Jimmy

Speaking as someone newly sober I would say to you, don't look too far ahead. Take it hour by hour until you can take it day by day. Then plan for a week. Thinking of a future without alcohol might be too much for the mind to handle (it was that way for me). Looking at the big picture is not always the way to go when you are first starting out.

Baby steps, Jimmy.

I need half a bottle to sleep

I used to think I needed to drink in order to go to sleep.

However, what I actually did was drink to help myself pass out. That wasn't sleep.

Now that I'm sober, I go to sleep just fine.

Hi Jimmy - I really hope you don;t get that bottle of wine.

Withdrawal is hard...but putting it off doesn't make it any easier.
and...you're not alone here
