Officially 24 hours since alcohol passed my lips

Feeling fantastic! I made the active decision yesterday to cut down ... following day I grew a pair and gave it my best shot and go cold turkey. Today has been good.

No issues. I've had some lack of motivation, lost my appetite a little but have still ate normally. Apart from that I'm rocking. I've been drinking lots of tea, and water.

1 down ... more to come. I actually look forward to waking tomorrow with no hangover. I always feel refreshed after a good sleep. Something which I haven't felt in a while.

Oh also some more amazing news. For the past 5 years I had pitting edema every time I drank. I'd be fine all day until I drank and then my feet would swell a little bit and feel a bit puffy. Well today I have non of that so proof alcohol causes edema for me and another thing to remind myself to not drink.

I wouldn't have stopped if I didn't register here. I feel like I've got a place to vent, and discuss, and even help others in some ways.

**** alcohol. Here's to a sober life.

Keep up the good work, you'll need a support group like this website, its very hard to stay sober by doing it alone, I hope I can help you.

Great job on 24hrs 16YearsDrunk 👍

I think there's a 24hr sober thread on SR where you can commit to staying sober for 24hrs...you just keep committing each day if you need/want to from what I understand.

I need to take some time to discover the whole forum. It's so big! Will find that thread now :)

Congrats! The first 24 are the most important, without there is no day two, three, etc.

Keep it up!

Great job, 16! It is such a good feeling to wake rested and refreshed instead of hungover, guilty and full of shame and fear regarding what happened the night before. I remember dry heaves, my heart pounding out of my chest, anxiety and confusion--but no more! Sobriety totally rocks, and I am so glad that you are here. SR has been a huge help in my getting and staying sober.

Not waking with a hangover, or being super tired because of booze, is SUCH a relief. Good job!

How are things going 16 years? The first few days were always the hardest time when I decided to quit. This forum gave me a lot of help and support when I needed it.

Still here :) My weight bench arrived today so set it up and done a workout session. Still not touched a drop of alcohol. Got a little tempted to earlier today because I was feeling super happy after my workout but I had a cup of tea and all was well.

The worst times for me are when I'm happy. I tend to tell myself "you deserve one, you've done good today". But I've got this :) Been a good day to be honest. That's another day I can tick off. I'm feeling much better already.

Note ... my 12 year old came home from school and said "I can lift 20kg easy". So I put 2 10kg on a 20kg olympic bar, making 40kg. If I wasn't there to spot him he'd have killed himself lmao. That bar is deceptively heavy.

joandmelandhan 02-06-2018 01:01 PM

Oh I'm so pleased you've decided to go for it! And yes I did spot you on the 24 hour thread yesterday! Not checked in again today mind! (I notice these things haha!)
I'd just say expect to feel allsorts of emotions early on. Just keep that mind-set you have right now and don't let another sip of that poison cross you lips no matter what! Great job!
