New guy here....

Hi everyone . A bit about myself. I'm a 48 year old single disabled father of two teenage daughters. I've been struggling with alcohol since about 2011 and it recently got worse in the past couple of years and it culminated in a DUI incident this New Year's Eve. That woke me up and gave me a lot to think about and also a lot to fear. Hopefully I can find people who've gone through the same thing on this form. It sucks to go through this alone.

Welcome.

Have you been sober since the incident?

Hi Munky

I'm 51years old- 10 days clean and sober👍
I'm working a daily action plan
And I have a long time sober sponsor.
I believe our willpower can be channelled into recovery actions and that will enable us to sober up and get stronger.
Best wishes to you
You can do it!:c011:

Welcome, Munky - we're so glad to have you with us. This is a friendly & encouraging place.

I struggled with it too - for many years. I was determined to use will power to control how much I drank. It took me a long time to realize that every time it was in my system there was no way to predict what might happen. Sometimes I led myself into dangerous situations - like driving after drinking. All the things I swore I'd never do - I ended up doing while under the influence. It was such a relief to get free of it. It can be done - stay with us.

Welcome, Munky!

Have you stopped drinking since the DUI? You will find lots of support here.

Welcome to SR!

Now that you face some legal consequences for your drinking, it's a good time to take some action.

It sucks to go through this alone.

You don't have to. Go to some AA meetings, you will find support there. And it will also show the judge that you are serious about getting sober.

A lot of people go to AA because they are court ordered. Go before the judge makes you, and possibly it will help your legal situation.

Welcome Munky -

I just turned 50 recently and was a daily drinker (excessive) for the better part of 25 years. Unfortunately I drove under the influence many a time, just never got caught. Luckily I never killed anybody. Youre not alone in this battle and youre in the right place.

Welcome-
I will celebrate my 2 years sobriety and 39th birthday on Jan 22. I drank for 20 years with no real consequences. When I hit rock bottom and age 35, I got 4 DUI's in 18 months. I was looking at 3 years in jail, but by some sort of miracle was allowed to do a court program instead. I'm just getting to the end of that program, but what happened to me needed to happen for me to get sober. The best advice I can give is to get a sponsor, take direction and be teachable. Recovery can be very uncomfortable at times, and it's doing the opposite of what we alcoholics are used to doing. I think it is great that you are reaching out to others, that was always one of the hardest things for me. Good luck!!
