AA for the partially deaf

I'm hard of hearing and find it difficult to go to AA meetings where I can't understand anyone. I'm not getting anything out it,

there's some online options.

I imagine there are real life meetings for deaf people too, assuming you can read sign language, and maybe hard of hearing meetings too if you live in or near a big city.

I'd google around.

If none of these work for you, is a hearing aid a possibility?

We had a deaf person attending our group a few years back. They brought a sign language interpreter who I think may have been a volunteer. Also all of us that shared would get up the front so the deaf person could look directly at us. As far as I know they stayed sober.

I think I undertand the context of your remark about not getting anything out of it. You meant that as you can't hear anything, you can't figure out what its all about?

The other context on not getting anything out of it that I experienced as a hearing (but perhaps not listening) person was due to the fact that I was not contributing anything. A lot of folk fall into that trap.

I have found AA to be like a benevolent slot machine. If I put a $1 in I get $10.00 out, but if I contribute nothing I get 10x nothing out.

Hey, I'm partially deaf too. Quite alot of town/community halls are linked up to the loops system when transfers talking through a mike straight to your hearing aids. I'm sure that be an option at some meetings. It may be they don't use it normally but would be happy to, if you approached them.

I totally get what you mean. I can't cope with drafty, echoy halls either. Voices just get swallowed up. It's like sitting with a paper bag over your head. Good luck finding a solution. Gabe x
