I am back.. second try

Hi

I have been away for some time, but I have been ok for most of the time.

I stayed completely sober for 2 months or so when I decided that I could have an occasional drink to socialise-then I fell into the trap again after some few months of “controlled” social drinking (which was actually fine: I never drank at home and only with friends or colleagues at social events) - then suddenly it lead to me having 3 glasses of wine every single day after work when Kids were asleep and on weekends almost a bottle a night!
I had “control” by not being sick (and vomit) and stopped refilling the glass when I sensed this I can handle without being sick- , so it was “controlled”, however I was tired and lacked energy in the morning....
I was fooling myself : if I am not sick or vomiting, then it is not a problem?!
But my mornings were bad... I felt sooo tired and drenched of energy...

So this is my second try of being completely sober:
1 January 2018 is my first sober day. I will try to be completely sober this time- I managed to find out that I cannot just drink occasionally- this leads to another glass and another glass and another bottle (at home).

Hi KatSienna,

Welcome back!

Alcoholism is a very tricky disease. I'm glad that you decided to stop this time before things got worse.

I've only been here for a couple of days, but it seems like a lot of folks have a false start and then come back to rock it. So congrats on today! I've had my share of relapses, so I totally get how hard it can be.

welcome back Kat
I certainly confused abstinence for control a few times.

My life is better because I no longer drink..period...not because I suddenly gained control of my drinking.

Kat - it's great to have you back.

I did the same thing. I finally realized that the struggle to try & drink socially was a lost cause, & would never be worth it. I always failed. One drink always led to a binge for me. It was a relief to kick it out of my life. You're doing this.

Kat, welcome.

I did the same last year. 2 months sober then decided to drink on holiday in September. Never really stopped until 21 December but so far so good. At least I know what will happen if I decide to drink again.
