Unwanted brain invasion

Hi everyone, thought I’d check in.
I’m sure day 24 is good going but complacency keeps creeping in. New Year’s Eve seems so long ago that it almost doesn’t matter anymore, doesn’t matter that I was so drunk that I remember nothing apart from waking up with bloodied face. Time sure is a great healer, feel ready to have another go at drinking. BUT that said, I need your support not to, it really does help, I sometimes catch myself daydreaming about a nice cold beer, it’s like an unwanted brain invasion, it must stop, stop it now. Thank you in advance my friends

You won't stop at one. You'll get sh**plowed, feel like garbage, get depressed, wallow in shame and self pity, maybe unintentionally hurt someone or yourself, and be right back here in due time.

Still want a beer?

This is so true. It's a head trip for sure, things get better the more time you put under the bridge so holding on is the best way to make it through.

feel ready to have another go at drinking

there are times when we just have to accept we are just NO GOOD at some things. out of the thousands and thousands of posts here you will not find ONE where a person got BETTER at drinking and drinking ceased to be a problem for the rest of their lives.

because it doesn't happen.

23 days ago alcohol took your memory away and gave you a bloody face.

If you are truly committed to sobriety and never drinking, it shouldn't matter that the memory of your horrible New Year's binge is fading...you've quit. For good.

Right?

Yes you are all right, this is why I can rely on this site to help me through. It gives me the kick up backside that I need every now and then and I also now understand that quote that I keep seeing by Robert Hunter, it’s just so right. I’m going to write it out and keep looking at it. In all honesty I do like waking up and getting in my car knowing that I’m not even slightly over limit and no fuzzy head. Ps ‘offthemast’ your message has really hit home , thanks

That's not healing, friend, that's delusion.

I think I had a Ph.D. in that at one time, so I am very familiar with it.

Congrats on 24 days.
