First night out after 19 days dry!

I was really worried about going out last night and apologised to my friends in advance that I was going to be boring company and they told me 'not to be ridiculous'. Lucky me. All went well and I enjoyed myself, I drank a pint of coke and 2 litres of water! I also knew 'when to go home' and remembered the whole night - winning! It helped that we had a meal planned so no standing around in bars. I also spent a fraction of what I normally do. I rather like this sober thing. Early days yet and still deluding myself that I can 'go back to it on my terms', so lots to get my head around. Thanks for a great forum. Reading other peoples experiences and struggles helpful.:thanks

Great post, getur. That's really it...it is possible to go out and stay sober, and I love the part about saving money and remembering the occasion.

This is great. I didn't shy from going out. I found I enjoy the getting ready and process more. Plus because I am sober I return home having lost nothing and not with my makeup rivalling the joker ;)

I'm one of those who needed to put clear distance between me and my old life...but I'm glad it went well and you had a good time :)

I know what you mean about apologizing for being boring, but I found most of my friends prefer me being “boring” opposed to the smart guy I thought I was when I drank. Keep up the good work!

Awesome story - that’s how you win the war!

I've posted this before, but the first time I went out after getting sober I had SR open on my phone and my phone in my lap, ready to post for help if I needed it. It worked and since then I've been able to go out probably twenty to twenty five times in the past two years, each time without drinking or even really feeling much temptation.
My attitude is that booze is ingrained in our culture and it's not going away, so I have to learn to deal with it and deal with occasionally being around people who are drinking. After all, I'm the one with the problem, not them.
