Lying to the GP
Lying to the GP
I have never told my GP how much I really was drinking each week
20 pints sounded and then looked good on the screen.
Is it now time to come clean?
It may be that I need medical aid to help me get through the next few months.
Lying to the GP was lying to myself at the time.

I would say yes - and there's a chance they know already, or have a good guess. I wasn't fooling my drs much if any...coming clean and facing all the tests I needed was terrifying but necessary as I started my recovery.

I had to fess up on Monday just to be fair to the Doc as he picked up something and was puzzled as to why/how. I figured he'd get to the answer in the end but figured honesty is the best policy - he seemed relieved not annoyed as that gave him something to work with. I'd say tell them and then accept ALL advice and help - could be the difference you need to make it real! Good luck
I'm 52 and it's the first time I've seriously quit.
9 days in and my mind is exploding with fireworks of thoughts
I will make a GP appointment tomorrow morning and confess all.
Thanks G

Hi Rockfish75, welcome to SR! I would tell the truth so that they have the facts as a basis to recommend the best course of treatment for you. I understand it's daunting and frankly, embarrassing to have to admit to someone, but if a moment's discomfort can open the door to a solution, then who cares, right? All the best Rockfish, let us know how you get on?
GPs generally assume you drink double what you admit to, so yours may not be as surprised as you think when you come clean. honesty really is the best policy. you're not the worst case the Dr has ever seen, or even, probably, the worst case that day. good luck

You try and add up to what you think normal people's alcohol intake is... Like 'I'll say, 2 a night, that's 10 on weekdays. I'll not mention the weekends atall'

Good decision, rockfish. I'd also add that for me, I committed to following whatever directions my drs (GP, liver and psych) gave me, especially when it came to meds and taking them correctly.
Best to you.
Best to you.
GP didn't want to know. I was upsetting his day as an emergency appointment. Gave me Thiamine tabs and a phone number. Called the number and it was the wrong place. The Welsh NHS is a joke. They force you to pay for it with threat of jail and then don't have the time to listen.

Sorry to hear it didn't go so well, but sometimes you have to put the groundwork in yourself.
A simple google search will give you the numbers to local addiction centers. You can also look into a therapist or just good ol' AA is always there.

I'm 10 days in. I have what can be described as brain fog. I'm eating well. Drinking plenty of good fluids and sleeping well. Sometimes anxious. I am attending a recovery group tomorrow. I think the Doc went nuts because he thought I could've killed myself going cold turkey on my own. I know the place he wants me to go to and its a run down hole attached to a closed hospital. Not doing that.
