My Alter Ego

I will put it simply, the morning version of myself has they intention of becoming and staying sober. The night time me just wants to get drunk. Does anyone have a strategy that would help my Mr. Hyde see the light?
Thanks

I’m not exactly the poster child for sobriety, however what works for me when I am doing well is to stay busy in the evening with other stuff to do. I know it sounds simple enough but it still is hard. I’m in the same situation as you. Morning.......Good. Evening.........Bad.

Put a plan in place of things to do to keep you busy in the afternoon. One day at a time and and Mr. Hyde will come out less and less.

I’m closing tonight, so I’ll be busy. My location that I work in sells beer and wine and although it’s not my drink of choice, it’s right there.

In the evenings for the first couple weeks, I came here all the time and read stories other people went through, the relapses, the successes and I wanted the successes, not the relapse.

I would read, watch TV, paint, play with my son, work out, sleep, and eat!

That all helped me!

Blessing,

why not try going to AA meetings sometimes there on at night and buy the time you get home your Mr Hyde will be too tired to come out plus keeping busy helps as well mostly i hang out on this forum as i find it really helpful and the people here are amazing too

I used to think in terms of Jekyll and Hyde too but I'm not sure it was that helpful.

Both me's were still just me.

My addicted self wanted to drink - but it has no arms or legs - it needs me to go to the store, bring back booze and pour it down my throat.

If I refuse to do that, it's beaten and there's nothing it can do about that.

Sure it can throw a tantrum - but like any toddler it will tire itself out and go to sleep eventually

When I quit drinking, I posted and read here a lot.

I committed daily to not going out and buying more booze or being around drinkers.

its a fairly basic plan but at the time it covered all the bases for me.

There are some ideas for building a more detailed action plan here:
