Bim, Dragon, Petal. Alpaca commune. I’m in. Anyone else? It’d be like Tom Robbins book “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues”. Sheep and goats too. At least we’d have what we we need stay warm, if nothing else. Mutton, lamb, goats milk, too. And honey bees.

Badge, you’re not supposed to clean the junk drawer. I hope we don’t lose you forever.

Good to see you TW.

Sorry, I was being cheeky love....my husband Nick....his username here is Goat.

But I seriously think the farm idea is wonderful.

And we will need a bigger place....there needs to be room for cats and dogs and all sorts of four-paws.

Hey goat,

Venus, Bim, Petal, Dragon and I are starting an alpaca commune. You’re welcome to come. You’d fit right in. I’ve got thirteen acres, but it’s cold a lot of the year here.

Hey friends
I hope you are all keeping well.
As for me? Well I’m mega stressed out.
I was in bed management all of this week which did not go well.
I was half asleep at my desk last Tuesday and my colleagues phone rang. She was on a half day and it turned out to be the general manager to say non essential procedures are cancelled. I checked the computer system but they had free beds on the ward. Then yesterday I was told you can bring in all of the patients but then there was an emergency admission from the clinic. A patient got bad news before Christmas and he was supposed to be admitted before Christmas but he did a runner. The doctors called the police and everything. Eventually the nurse specialist tracked him down this week and he was admitted yesterday by me. I know people complain about the health care system in Ireland but the staff do care and we are all doing the best we can. After I told the nurse that he had a bed she was walking him to admissions and I was on a late lunch so I wanted to go to the shop to buy a sandwich and a newspaper. They happened to be walking in front of me and he didn’t look well at all. His neck looked extremely swollen. So we were asking the nurse today about him and she told us it’s not looking good for him. She said it would have made a difference if he came in earlier. I don’t understand why but I guess some cancers are very aggressive. We asked her how did she get him in? So she said “I phoned him all over Christmas and he just happened to pick up the phone yesterday and I told him today that either I would be taking away his shoes or his laces in case he leaves again”. I presume she was joking but with her you never know

I wrote here last month that my manager told me she was asking for a contract extension for me but she didn’t know how long HR would give me. I was on the edge of my seat for weeks. My important mail goes to my parents house and every day I was there I checked the mail box. Even when I was not there I phoned my dad to ask if there was any mail for me. He always said no until last Wednesday when I did not ask but he told me very casually that a brown envelope arrived marked private and confidential. I knew he was dying to know so I just asked him to open it and read it out over the phone. So despite all of my worries I have been handed another year long contract Truthfully after this week I don’t know if I want it but I will stay for now.

Every week that I go to work the patients appear to be getting younger and the cancers are more aggressive. The above patients story disturbed me a lot. My father is 72 and he is still healthy enough except for high blood pressure. Some of these patients are my age or else in their 50s. Ok, some of them have a long background history of smoking (60 a day? How do they get anything done?) but I really felt sorry for this guy. I remember I was lighting candles for him before Christmas (like my Grandma used to do for me the morning I had a big exam). I used to do that for every patient until someone told me that it was nice of me but also bad as it meant that I was taking work home with me in my head.
Anyway that’s our story.
I hope you are all keeping well
Take care always

There's three of those in my kitchen. One for my wife, one for me, and the general all-purpose junk drawer. For some reason cleaning one just causes the other to become harder to close.

I'm here! Sorry Magpie, but those dang twisty ties would jump out every time the drawer was opened, someone had to show them who the boss really was! it was a battle royal!!, dang things do not play by the policies dictated by the Geneva convention. Good thing I had my mini fire torches to even out the battlefield,,, of coarse I almost burned the house down,,, okay not really, I have them suffocating in a zip lock bag,, I take no prisoners.

I read that book in the 70s! I don't remember anything about it, but I don't really remember the 70s. Those are my lost years.

Congratulations on the contract extension Tetra, it sounds like you have earned it.

Thinking of you SaH and you BixBees.

bim they say that if you can remember the 1970s you were there.

I can't believe Mr. & Mrs. Goat are Weekenders now.

Tetra, congrats!

Thanks for the entertaining thread today. No drinking tonight, so we can do it again tomorrow, eh?

Guess what I saw in the pouring down rain today at the beach?

An Orca! That's right, eat your hearts out. He (she) was an adult I believe with a fin probably 5-6 feet tall. He was only about less than a hundred yards offshore...moving north along a long open area so I saw him for a while. Like 15-20 minutes. A.Mazing. That huge black fin rolling up and down in the water and the blow of water when he exhaled. Remember I talked about salmon a couple weeks back? There is a gathering of salmon near this beach. Lunch!

It was a bit odd, they usually travel in family groups, but I only saw that one. Maybe tomorrow he'll bring the family!!!! That's the closest I've ever been to a wild Orca, and definitely the best view I've ever had.
