Whether you are drinking and struggling or not, I wish everybody a happy and sober New Year. A new year. A new start. Wish I could hug all of you, but this is the best I can do. All of you deserve a great life. Hope you find it this year. John

May be sitting home by myself, but it's comforting to know there are people out there that know I exist. No complaints here. Just know there are people out there that know I am here is enough. Feel pretty grateful for that. Pretty cool actually. John

I mean, there are people all over the world that has read my posts and responded. Makes me feel pretty humble. I read somewhere that every footprint you make can never be duplicated. Doesn't make you special, just unique.
I met a taxi driver years ago. His belief was that we are all connected by a kind of force field. What happens to one person affects everybody else. If you do good, it spreads. Who knows what a simple hi can do. Maybe starts a wave of good stuff. Hi. John

Happy New Year John. You are certainly not alone.
I am finding this a strange night.......not just because I'm not drinking. NYE has always filled me with dread; thinking god, what will go wrong next year? I am still kind of thinking that but I'm also wondering if things will change for the better....how might life be if I could accept being sober. What if I gave up struggling with myself. What if I stopped seeking what I cannot have? It feels that almost anything can happen. A bit frightening and hopeful at the same time.

Way back when I was a hippie, I had a plaque of a guy standing in the middle. On his right was the past. On his right was the future. In the middle was his present. It showed him pissing on the present. The point being the past is the past, the future is the future, but all we can do is change what we can change now.

Maybe look at it this way. The life you control is very small. That's not a bad thing. I don't know what I would do without my safe place. But you can actually build your life around unexpecting circumspances (sp). By doing that, you now have a safe place to venture out and try new things. You now have a home base to try new things. Pretty exciting possibilities. John
