Something that really helped today

I was alone, having really bad cravings and I decided to get out my old oil paints and canvas. This was an activity I used to enjoy before alcohol entered my life. At first I was skeptical and didn't really think it would work, but I was amazed to find that the more I painted, the more focused I became. It took me several hours to complete a small painting and afterwards I felt really accomplished and good about myself and cravings had subsided.

I'm just posting this to remind myself and others that sometimes the best thing to do is distract yourself with an activity/ hobby. Don't just spend all day watching TV, do something.

Even if you think "this won't work," just try it anyway.

That's a great motivator. I have paints and canvasses I got as a gift last Christmas that are mostly unused. I think I'll get them out tomorrow. Sitting dwelling on thoughts is the quickest way to relapse for me so doing something, anything, is vital. :thanks

Well done, bringmeback. Distraction is a very useful tool, glad it worked for you. :scoregood

Thanks for the encouragement. There is so much to enjoy if we just fight past that learnt laziness that hangs over from our drinking.

So don’t overthink it just do it seems to be the tip.
Love it.
