What’s your absolute most favorite thing to do sober?

For me right now, it’s reading news on my phone and keeping my mind busy.

Growing up I was huge into sports but not so much the last few years I’ve been drinking heavily. So trying to get back into it.

Still looking for a hobby that I find as enjoyable as I did drinking....

Read
It angers me that I allowed my favorite activity to fall by the wayside due to increased drinking
Tried to read with the buzz- didn’t work for me

I can't figure out how to answer that. :) I guess I need a hobby. The closest I can come is anything. I can do whatever I want now that I don't have the issue of falling into a bottle every night. I have a new friend and we like to take random community ed classes in the winter. I've gotten into Yoga and we are going to try pottery next.

Interacting with my dogs, either walking them or petting them or giving them a biscuit. :)

I’m trying to find out! I’ve been kind of hunkered down the last week, not worried much about anything other than sobriety. I was just telling my husband that I’m hoping motivation to learn new things, and pursue old interests will come with sobriety. I hope it does. I sure haven’t seen any motivation for a long while.

The hobby for me that went to the wayside during my drinking days was cooking, nothing better now on my weekends then going out with a shopping list and then back to my kitchen for a few hours of trying out something new and experimenting with new recipes.

My new hobby though is I've gotten immersed in the world of tea drinking, white, green, black, there are so many flavours out there from all over the world, and I've started a collection of various tea pots, tea leaf strainers and tea cozys . . . nothing better than kicking back in the evening and savouring a new flavour, or when I go somewhere spending time in a tea shop looking at all the gadgets and different flavours!! :)

Playing my guitar and singing.

Sober allows me to play with much more precision and passion..

...nobody going to say it? Sex. Nothing deadening the nerves, deeper connection and I will stop there.

Honestly there is a peace I feel with everything I do. Time management has improved 150% 3 kids a husband, couple dogs, stable of horses, two for profit companies and one non profit, plus volunteering and sitting on boards in an advisory position, I needed time and I have it now. I even have spare time! I am really looking forward to leaving on holidays in 2 days, downtime with the Family, get a jump on projects. I wish I had done this sober thing way sooner.

Riding my motorcycle!!! Faster, funner, and safer for everyone!

Going out exploring new trails on my bicycle. I love being outdoors sober because everything looks clear and beautiful.

Exactly the same here. Every morning but especially Saturday mornings.
I feel the anticipation and excitement of having a full weekend with my family without the shackles or restrictions of booze.

In fact for the past 7 weeks or so we have started a new family habit.
Sat and Sunday morning for about an hour the Sonos goes on loud and I dance about the living room with my kids.
Joyful, harmless, heartfelt fun.

Never happened before when I was boozing.

Driving at night.

The ability to just drive, anywhere and do so safely.

Working out and more working out. I have next to know urges when working out, and the body feels so much better. I am at 45 days. I needed to lose some pounds so a good side affect. My wife told me a week or two ago I look 3 years younger. And most of my family told me over Christmas how good I look. I think they really mean how much better I look, but I'll take it. After being moderately depressed and having my self-esteem less than desirable, all welcome gifts for Christmas.

Also reading alot, mostly self-help. Some related to AA, emotions, sleep, just alot of areas of rebuilding the foundation after approximately the last 20 years of drinking.

God Bless you all!!

Impressive time management. Good for you, stick with it.

Planning and then following through on hiking trips to places far away. Much more 'doable' with money not being spent on booze. I also really enjoy gym time.

Mizzuno 12-25-2017 08:46 PM

Running daily.
9 months in and I feel stronger than ever.
I look forward to a long Run and then watching Netflix. The weekends are great for this type of behavior.

Wow so many things but I can pick only one right?

I'll go fo the gym. Not just working out - but the feeling afterwards as I drink my protein shake and enjoy my latte in the cafe area. Feeling like I'm back in that world again. Getting fitter every day and looking after myself.
