On Day 3 - My brother is an idiot

So my brother comes into my room with a backpack, opens it and it is filled with bottles of beer. He and his friends crashed a company party last night (do not know how they were not spotted and routed) and thry went crazy due to the free booze. The endless bottles in his backpack were smuggled out of the venue.

My brother is a moderate drinker. A freak who can have a single bottle and leave it at that. He does not know about my alcoholism - he offered the beer to me. I said no, not just cause of my sobriety, but also because beer is repulsive. I gave the bottles to my dad. Dude didn't even ask where the beer came from! He just stocked the fridge up and said he is good till the new year lol. He is also a moderate drinker.

Everyone in the house is nursing hangovers from last night. While I feel as fresh as a baby who jist emerged from the womb. Yes I am being smug about it to my family!

Onwards to Day 4.

It's easy to forget how awful the hangovers feel when accompanied by hating yourself and feeling utterly worthless as well.

I try to remember every time I see people who are drunk.

So true about how horrible hangovers are - both physically and mentally. The self-loathing is so powerful. I remember being afraid to check my bank balance. I literally refuse to check the balance for like a week because I fear seeing the consequences of my actions. NEVER AGAIN.

Nicely done, keep that guard up life just gets better and better! I thought after six months last year, that I could moderate and I gave into that thought. Spent the year weekend binging, but I'm on week 3 and changing my whole life around. It truly does get better, my hangovers were becoming withdrawals.

We can do it!

Hm. Doesn't sound like your brother really can take it or leave it (?) Just saying, maybe he has you fooled the way you think you have him fooled.

It is odd to watch others go through their drinking transformations as a sober person. Odd as in, uncomfortably sad.

Perhaps he has fooled me. We only really see each other during the holidays. Live on opposite sides the country. I am good friends with his girlfriend. They practically live together and she says he does not really drink much outside special occasions. She said he bought a bottle of whisky and it took him 4 months to finish. I hope he does not have an alcohol problem. It would break my heart.

No I haven't. I don't want to arouse suspicion. My family do not know of my weakness to alcohol. So my brother just thinks I am the same girl who enjoys to drink on special occasions. I am goimg to tell my family one day - but for now I wanna deal with it without them knowing.

Excellent job, tiredwoman! It feels so good to wake up without a hangover and to remember what happened the night before. I wish you much peace and strength on your sober journey.

Sounds like you are doing fantastic, and you are more than halfway through the first week, which is the hardest. Sobriety keeps getting better, keep up the great work!!!
