Almost 3am and I am seriously craving booze

Ugh. I am only on Day 1 and I am struggling. My twin brother was drinking wine earlier and only had two glasses (one of those freaks who can drink one bottle or glass and be done). I taste buds are craving the taste of red wine. And I am up late and this is when I am prone to drinking. I will indule myself with booze, music and weed.

But i won't. I can't keep doing this to my mind and body. I can do better.

Try and sleep, read. Go to the library or order from Amazon. Put your hands on every book about sobriety and recovery you can. Make plans, day, two days. Visualize your life without alcohol. Visualize it positively, see yourself sober and embracing things you enjoy.

I'd try sleeping, that usually makes me think of nothing. If unable to sleep ill watch TV. If unable to do that, I'll work out.

Way to post in a weak moment, that damn AV is a beast, but you're stronger!

I will admit - I like taking weed before sleeping. Withouy it it is hard for me to sleep and that is why I am awake still. But when I am high, I am more susceptible to drinking. I cannot allow myself to increase my chances of relapsing.

Think I will try and read. Thank you.

Eat something. Warm milk will help you sleep. Not hot chocolate, just milk. Maybe with toast. It's hard to sleep on hangover days, and for the next couple weeks if you stay sober it's going to be tough to sleep.

Stay the course. See you tomorrow.

And yeah, weed's a bad idea. There is a subforum for marijuana addiction here too. Not sure how busy it is.

Will try warm milk and a cheese sandwich. Don't really have an appetite but will force myself.

You will probably crave for a little while, The more you can experience the truth that cravings pass without us giving into the the better.

Your sleep patterns should return to normal in a few days too
Here;s some more ideas on cravings and how you might deal with them

So, food is a great craving killer! Always do that first.

Also, HALT is an acronym (is that right?) for things to fix if you are craving. Kind of a touch-phrase.
Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired. Any of those things can cause increase in cravings.

And Dee's so right. Cravings pass in a few minutes. Distract!!

Hi, tiredwoman. Good on you for coming here instead of following through with drinking. Food is a great idea; I would never eat when drinking-didn't want anything to get in the way of my buzz. I found B vitamins, particularly thiamine to be helpful since alcohol depletes them from our systems. You can get through this and I wish you much peace and strength on your sober journey.

tw, ice cream was my magic craving-management tool.

Get something you love, and eat it when the cravings come on.

They will pass and day by day it gets easier, especially when
you really start to heal physically.

There will be moments that are acute--that's when you take a walk,
watch an old movie, have a shower.

Also, get lots of non-alcoholic things to drink in the house.
You know, hot chocolate, herbal tea, sparkling water and juice.
Things you can hold in your hand like alcohol but aren't and yet taste good.

Hang in there.
You can do this

Well done tiredwoman, I am a few weeks into sobriety and my sleeping has improved immeasurably! Sleeping when drunk is not really sleeping.

Your blood sugar is going to be messed up for a while...waking up at three a.m. is usually caused by a low blood sugar level after our bodies have processed all the sugar in alcohol and it takes a while to adjust.

Eating a small snack with complex carbs and protein before going to bed can help with this.

Onward, yes?

Yup. Eating sandwich and warm milk really helped me last night. Tonight I am good. I thought I couldn't handle being in front of my parents drinking while watching the football without drinking, but I managed it. Was so funny seeing how they both stressed over their respective teams.
