New here

Day 0,
1000th attempt to quit,
1000 excuses / reasons I sleep failing,
1000 promises to drink slow, in control, don’t swim down to the bottom
1000+ mornings of regret and self loathing

Glad I found you all

Welcome, itsbeen! We're glad you found us too - this is a wonderful place for encouragement & understanding. Knowing you never have to feel alone is so important. You can get free. We will help.

1001 Day 1's.
1001 reasons to quit.

The past is the past, lets keep it there. We beat ourselves up enough

Today is just a stepping stone until tomorrow. You can't get there without today. So Day 1 is exactly that, Day 1. Learn from yesterday, but don't hold onto it.

Welcome to day 1 and welcome to SR. At least you've added a new tool to the bag by joining us.

I really didn't want to join. I lurked for a bit before I made myself known in April 2015.

Now I don't want to leave.

Glad I became active here. You can get the same results with the same effort.

Post, read, post, read, post, read. Be active and your subconscious will realize you mean business.

I am a bit taken by surprise by all the support. I appreciate it deeply and in ways I did not anticipate. This has been a very private struggle for me. Right or wrong, this is not something I could share with my wife and It’s odd and comforting to communicate with others about it.
I appreciate the person who asked about Day 1. I was still braced by my solid resolve to quit drinking on the heels of a blistering hangover. It’s funny, as my life normalized and I got back in the groove through the afternoon... I’d catch faint scratchings of triggers and brief, fleeting thoughts that began to lay the groundwork for a more reasonable, intelligent, strategic approach to drinking. If I wondered where I need to focus, it’s the internal justification and coaching that leads me right back to the dark place. It’s cruel as it’s that same coaching that leads to positive growth, I’ve unfortunately developed a convincing narrative, same voice, that says that I can drink differently, this next time will be different. I know that’s a lie, but I willfully buy into it. Thanks for your ears
