First step to recovery I am long aware that I have an alcohol problem. Long term social drinker, took a turn for worse over the last 2-2.5 years. Have been drinking everyday and starting before noon at least 3-4 times a week. Cannot stop once I start. And yes, I am at that point where I am about to lose things or people that really matter to me. So... I have been to a psychiatrist today. We are starting my recovery journey with some simple exercises and planning a 10-day, drug-assisted detox for sometime in January. It is a little disappointing (and depressing) to learn that I can never be a social drinker - that i should refrain from alcohol for the rest of my life. Anyways. My doc assures me that we will fill the void and i will not regret quitting ever. Hope he is right. Pray he is right. So... fingers crossed. First serious attempt to quit alcohol. Hope I will succeed. Grateful in advance for all the support. |
First attempt here as well You can absolutely do this! |
Welcome to SR! Great job getting the doctor to help. I went to an addiction counselor and used AA and this place. Full court press. I thought I would miss social drinking, but I really don't. My social drinking and other's social drinking weren't exactly the same. You can do this!! |
