I want some books on Alcoholism - any recommendations?
With it being the holidays and with me attempting to rid myself of this addiction, I would like to read some books on alcoholism. Will also help keep me distracted plus I think I can get a lot of perspective and wisdom in the literature.
I would appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks

Rational Recovery The New Cure For Substance Addiction by J.Trimpey is the only book on recovery I read, or needed to read , highly recommend it.
Here on SR in the Secular Connections Forum are great threads on those ideas . The topmost sticky is a great place to start , along with the threads with "long" in the title.
Great reading without leaving for the store or waiting on delivery

The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Might also be worth checking some meetings out. They'll all be going ahead as usual over the holidays, even a lot of them on Christmas day (so we don't end up killing our families lol).

If you can get your hands on William Porter ...Alcohol Explained then read it! I live in the UK so not sure if you will be able to get a copy , Amazon? I have been trying to quit drinking for 5 years with no success. I read this book (and trust me I have read sooo many recovery books) and my perception has changed totally and I have been sober 30 days without even the desire to drink! Am looking forward to my first sober Christmas in about 20 years!

Thanks for this thread tiredwoman.. there are also some good documentaries out there, some are very hard hitting...
Has anyone read Allen Carr's easy way to control drinking? I've started many times but never keen to get past 1st 5 pages..

Tired Woman: Consider "The 30 Day Sobriety Solution" by Jack Canfield and Dave Andrews. You can get it on Amazon and also the instant download Kindle edition. You can actually plan the program for 30-60 or 90 days depending on how much time you can commit to it daily. It is not just a good, easy read, it is loaded with "Daily Action Steps" that build upon themselves and help you stay focused and commited to your journey to sobriety.
By the way Canfield is the Author of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series of books and Andrews is a recovering alcoholic and drug abuser. Andrews now works as a alcohol and drug abuse counselor and has been sober for a number of years.
Hope this helps.
