I know what they do with Israel’s Dead Sea: they distill out the salt and sell it to rich, vain American women as “therapeutic mineral bath salts!”

MB, thanks for rounding out my post. Your advice was so simple yet so true: just engage, and engagement with follow!

Plus pay complete attention when someone is speaking to you. You will likely become interested!

And thank you for giving encouragement and perspective for those who don’t subscribe to a higher power concept.

This is a wonderful thread!

The problem is that the Salton Sea is not a natural body of water. It was created by accident in the early 1900s when a dike on the Colorado River broke and flooded the Salton Sink (a low lying salt flat). It has no outlets and the only inlets are a couple of small rivers that are heavily polluted. I believe the inflows are just enough to counteract the evaporation and keep water in the Sea. It's a heavily polluted eyesore quite saltier than the ocean, and authorities don't know whether to try to clean it up (expensive) or cut off the inflows & let it evaporate or there was even an idea floated to connect it via pipelines to have an inflow and outflow to/from the Pacific Ocean, but I think that is pie-in-the-sky thinking. It is actually visually quite beautiful and scenic, but really unsuitable for swimming, boating, or fishing...I think some people still kayak in it, though.

Tetra? Do we have to come look for you again?

I'm having spinny brain this morning and I'm trying to reset with quiet Christian contemporary Christmas music on Pandora. Sometimes works, sometimes not so much.

Two more weeks. I can hang on.

Hi, Mesa.

I was doing a lil SR Drive-By when Gilmer's uplifting Intro caught my Eye. Along with 2 familiar topics: Music, and the Salton Sea. We went there last Year to Trailer it on down to my old Riverside County Stomping Grounds. We'll hit the Desert again next Month to soak up some warmth.

Before I even listened to the Link that pal Bim put up, I recognized Albert King's Guitar. Complete with his name inlayed into the Neck. He's a Leftie. Below, see Joe Bonamassa play that extremely valuable Guitar - a Gibson Prototype of the 'Flying V' - on a Song that Albert composed. The Guitar Knobs and Cord are up instead of down, where they *usually* are. It's been reworked for Right Hand playing.

This Guitar went MIA for Years. A Luthier working on it later said his ~7 Year old Son wandered in to ask who the big Man sitting on the Couch was? No one had been let in. Given his Son's age, and detailed, innocent description, the Luthier finally assumed that a deceased Albert was checking up on his prized Guitar from another Dimension. All details fit. Cue 'The Twilight Zone' music, eh?

At ~4 Years in, permanently-Sober Retired Life in this Dimension is good here around MesaVille @ 6,150'. Sunsets like the one below keep us entertained while just going with The Flow...

Thanks for that story, Mesa. I really miss your contributions. I listened to that guitar for a couple hours yesterday in that music string.

Nice to know Albert is still looking after it. He seemed to be such a generous kind soul.

Great original post, Gilmer! Very true, we need other people to do it right.

It's funny, every time I see your name I remember how Cow used to call you Glimmer.

Good to see you MesaMan

The Salton Sea deserves a better fate than slow evaporation. I probably drunk an equivalent amount of beer in the 1980s.

I watched that Bonamassa video...or tried to...no soul, man.

Watching that was painful. The one Albert King did...mmmm

Obviously the guitar wasn't the talent. :-|

Can't hurt to have SRV as your backup, either.

I have just receieved a SEVERE tongue lashing from the former Mrs S. Daughter No. 2 would appear to be a chip off the old block and is the new owner of an old, non running Porsche 911 from the last century which she claimed I could fix - thereby implying that I knew about it which I didn't.

Ugh!

Apparently the panels are of varying colours.

I wouldn't be so concerned if it was the older daughter, she drives sensibly. I have been a passenger once I think when younger daughter was driving - for most of the journey I had my eyes shut and was hyperventilating as east London passed by at close to the speed of sound, my foot anxiously pressing an imaginary brake pedal.
