Welcome to SR! It's a hugely supportive community, a great resource for information and inspiration. Read, post, read some more; great people around here.

Had a long long day at work. Co workers went for drinks. I came home tired and kinda lonely. Logged on and great to see all these people who don't know me, understand me and offer words of encouragement. Really lifted my spirits and what I needed to not reach for that bottle.

Well done RW. You know, I bet ya went for after-work drinks plenty of times before. Never brought real satisfaction though I suspect - like the rest of us, if it did you wouldn't have ended up here and striving to free yourself of the lure of alcohol. If you'd gone it would have just been same old same old. You did the right thing not going.

How long have you been sober now?

I was able to avoid drinking while all my co workers at work had drinks. And honestly for the first time the reason I decided not to was because I knew I was going to log on to this site and for some weird reason even though I know non of you, I thought I'd be letting this group down. Which was a very bizarre feeling and reason not to drink. So this group, whoever you are, are helping.

Totally agree rusted wheel. When we have people relying on us it's harder to fail. SR and other group type programs help keep us accountable for our actions.

Have you looked into any type of sober programs or devised a plan?

I knew that I was serious about quitting this time around when I logged on to SR and posted on my Day 1. It was like an internal signal that said "you're serious about this again Tony - now don't embarrass yourself or let the group down."

I know it's weird - but it's how it works for me!
