I'm an alcoholic.

Good morning everybody. It was extremely difficult to admit to myself last night that I am indeed an alcoholic. I've always joked about it, denied it, thought it, etc, etc, etc. I was never serious. I know I have said it on here in the past, but i never totally believed it I found.

Some of you know that I have almost made it into an AA meeting the last few days.......almost. LOL Today I am going to get out of my truck and walk right in there. Not only was it my anxiety that was bad, I also was too proud to admit that I'm an alcoholic. I have no idea what to expect at a meeting, what they do, etc. But I am looking forward to finding out.

Thanks for taking the time to read my rambling. I feel like SR is the only place where what I am going through is understood. And I understand how much everybody else i going through.

I am an Alcoholic! OMG. Have a great day everybody. This is my Day 1

Welcome aboard Canuckleman. The most difficult part of this journey is finally admitting it and accepting it. Now you can move forward and take action.

good on ya!

I have no idea what to expect at a meeting, what they do, etc.

i suggest having no expectations other than finding a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

something great about the program of AA( and even AA itself):
a person doesnt have to admit theyre an alcoholic to attend meetings or work the program-just a desire to stop drinking.
the steps dont say ya have to admit youre an alcoholic either. the 1st step addresses being powerless over alcohol, then the rest are the solution.

Canuckleman, at one time I had a really hard time accepting I was an alcoholic, now I’ve totally accepted it, AND I talk openly and freely about it with close friends and family. They don’t judge me and only want to help, it’s amazing the relief and support I’ve found in the battle of this disease we have. I’ve just started back at AA meetings too, for a while I went to them with an attitude that “I don’t need this, I am better than this.” Once I dropped my own BS and really started listening I found connections, friends and support. My advice is to go in with an open mind and ears, really listen to what people have to say and don’t worry about how you appear what you say or don’t say., you’re in a room with people who’ve all suffered as you have...good luck

The first time I admitted that I’m an alcoholic was yesterday.
It was a strange and overwhelming experience
I do believe that your admission is a very positive thing
