Day 5: It’s Friday, and my AV IS whispering.........

“C’mon man, one little scotch won’t hurt. It’s Friday, you’ve been good all week.” On a day like this, I’d leave the office, hit a bar and have a couple of scotches, go home, go out to dinner, have more drinks and wine. Then i’d Wake up on Saturday felling like holy hell. So much so I’d hit a bar at 11 am “to take the edge off”. And then, i’d go on a bender.

Not tonight. I’m going to an AA meeting. Then i’m Going to pick up my daughters, get some Mexican food, watch a movie. And go to bed. Tomorrow I will wake up feeling great. I’ll hit the gym. Go to the office, work for a while, then spend the rest of the weeekend goofing off!

Great job with coping with that darn AV. These are the times that are the toughest and having a good plan is key. That's awesome that you recognize and have a good plan. Good luck and have a wonderful weekend!

I had it today, too. Replace everything you said with wine instead of scotch. I'm coming up on 5 months, experiencing PAWS (depression, insomnia etc)... it has been a lot of hard work but I don't see results yet so it's just tough.

But, I am going to drive straight home and just eat what I have in the house and watch a movie about alcoholism or a documentary and GO TO BED.

Let's all just get ourselves to bed without a drink. This guy in AA always says "I never woke up and said 'i am so glad i drank last night' ".... lol

Good plan and sounds much better than drinking!

Friday was always my favourite drinking day then I began hating Fridays a bit in my first few weeks sober.
The past 6 weeks or so I am back to loving Fridays and I am full of excitement for a family focussed fun sober weekend now.
Love being fresh on a Sat morning.

Good going sticking to the good life!

Horn,

My AV didn't used to whisper, it would scream. Those triggers wore on me for many months. Each anniversary day, bday, xmas, superb owl etc etc. Caused suffering.

I'm nearly 3 years sober, minus my slips and I am still healing.

The damage is deep and it is no joke.

But, for me, nobody but SR really knew my pain.

I suffered so long and hard getting clean I will never drink again.

It will surely send me to the looney bin or an earlier grave.

Stay clean.

Thanks.

Good work Horn . Sometimes that little voice can get louder and bigger so best to quieten it down with different action early on as you done . As Dee says with practice and time it gets easier .

Horn,

Towards the end of my drinking days, I didn't enjoy being drunk anymore.

That helped me to stop. I would get very physically wobbly after just a few, so going out to drink became dangerous.

Thanks.

I can honestly say, the thought of drinking right now repulses me. I had a great sober weekend.

Resolve to recall this honest estimation if/when the next time that little voice thinks 'maybe repulsive is a wee harsh' and you got it That little voice is a known liar, always stick with the honest estimation.
