I drank today

Been sick, so stayed home from festivities and drank. Capable at many points to stop but I have not. My 40 lb weight gain in 1.5 years makes me feel like sabotaging, with alcohol and food. I am seeing a therapist and doing AA.

I think of every excuse to drink. I need a new plan. I have a good one, but not executing it or following only a few days isnt good. I need help managing days...

I'm sorry you drank babescake.

It's a bit of an endless cycle...feeling down, ashamed and angry because of body issues, and then we drink thousands of empty calories.

Finding support and using it when we need it is one possible way of breaking that cycle.

Have you considered joining the November group?

Dee's post is a good one, and I agree about the November thread. You may also want to join us on the 24 hour thread each day.

If you are feeling any desire to drink log on here first.

For those of us that drank to cope, or for which alcohol was the solution, recovery was more than just quitting. We had to learn to cope with life sober.

We treat drinking like its the only answer. It's not.

I am 60lbs overweight and have body issues and low self esteem, which led to loneliness and a desire to drink, which led me to eat like crap and pack on more weight from the alcohol calories, which lowered my self esteem. I am 28 days sober now and the weight is coming off, which is raising my self esteem and building my confidence that I will be a healthy, confident person. Spiral down or spiral up, take the road to spiral up to a new level of happiness and contentment.

I think you have to find a way to stop the cycle. I know I did. As long as you allow the negative feelings to control you, they will lead you back to drinking. Have faith that you can step out of this cycle and begin to recover.
