Day 11 and craving alcohol.
I accept I was powerless after the first drink. Not taking that first drink...I have power over that.
So do you.
Stick close to SR. While here, read back over your old posts. Remind yourself how sick you were of day one and count your blessings that you are on day 11.

understand and accept that cravings happen. they just happen. they come and they go. you are under zero obligation to drink just because your body is having a temporary physical craving.
what is your recovery plan ? what options do you have in your arsenal? because this will come up from time to time.
just like head colds.
or charley horses.
or upset tummies.

"what DID you do....."
myself, i prayed like crazy, read the big book, and didnt drink one second at a time.
Remember. HALT. Hungry, angry, lonely, tired. Do any of these apply? For me, eating tends to take the edge off my urge to drink.
The urge WILL subside. You just have to ride it out.
Good luck. Stay close to SR. We are pulling for you.

I ate, I went for a walk, I talked to some people on the phone and I read some post on here.
The cravings have past for now. I can't go back to the bottle. If I start drinking alcohol will kill me I have no doubt.
Thank you all.

eat a sub, pizza, meat balls, pasta, mashed potatoes and gravy, a big glass of milk.... avoid pure sugar things like chocolate bars, candy, etc.
Your brain cannot think and scheme when all the blood is in the stomach !
The beast was very loud today on my end as well and it really took a lot of headspace to battle it out. Played the tape forward, went minute to minute, and really had to convince myself the craving will pass. And guess what, it did. Have been on a bit of a health kick lately so went and ate crappy tacos as a reward. Not the best plan but it worked! Hang in there and just keep telling yourself you are stronger than the AV.
cravings stink.
know what stinks even worse?
hangovers
jail
shame
despair
vomiting
killing people
losing your job
losing your relationships
losing your mind
losing your health and wellness
drinking yourself to death
Cravings are nothing in comparison to those. They're simply your addicted mind crying out for you to poison yourself.
You can choose how to respond.
Try responding my going to the gym
or horseback riding
or a walk in a forest
or journaling
or meditating
or calling a sober friend and going to get coffee
or ice cream
or reading the Big Book
or going to a meeting
or taking a long hot bath and reading a book
Anything.
Anything at all but drinking again.

You can read though the links here for a start?
https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums...-cravings.html (CarolD's tips for cravings)
Making an Action Plan to deal with cravings could be a good start as well.
https://www.soberrecovery.com/forums...very-plan.html (What exactly is a recovery plan?)
Ultimately the AV is always going to squawk, at least for a while.
Once you get through an episode without caving in, you'll see thats all the AV can do squawk. There's nothing it can do to you if you refuse to cooperate.
Treat like the toddler it is - let it tire itself out.

Thank you all for the support and advise.
I know this is probably insane but I am going to crawl into bed tonight as soon as I finish this post. It is only 6 pm here but bed sounds safe and I can always watch a movie to distract the voice. I am exhausted from the battle today so bed sounds wonderful.
See you all tomorrow.

My cravings have started kicking in and I just breathe deeply in and out and keep repeating in my head "this too shall pass" over and over. The deep breathing is so calming.
Focus on how amazing it feels to wake up not feeling like utter crap, clean mouth, clear head. No dread of what you said and did the night before. The money you are saving. Your liver healing itself.
You are doing so well, you can do this.
