Kinda scared. Can i do this without Antabuse
 

Missed my dose. I’m going back tomorrow to get it but i am worried can’t do this.

You can do this!

Antabuse is a bit like AA. Take it today and you wont drink tomorrow. Skip it for a few days and all bets are off.

I’m not sure what dose you are on and how long/often you have been taking it, but even if you are on a low dose (250 mg) and taking it every other day or more it will still definitely be in your system. If you are taking a larger dose and taking it daily, your going to be in for a really unpleasant experience if you decide to drink.

Edit...I read your post from a 3 days ago...the day you started Antabuse. If you have taken it for the last three days, even at a low dose, DO NOT DRINK! I take it and have read a lot about it. The best case scenario if you do drink right now is that your heart rate will go through the roof and your face will feel like it’s on fire, and probably vomiting. Worst case...you could die.

HI Press I read the leaflet from antabuse once and it recommended not ingesting any kind of alcohol for up to two weeks, so just shut the AV down - can't be done, not happening...no one wants to be sick.

Is someone else controlling the dose for you - I'm not sure why you have to go back somewhere to get it?

Dee - some drs (mine included) have some patients get it from the office every day. Reasons for this may include taking it incorrectly in the past, or the dr being worried about incorrectly taking it in the present. My dr had me sign (and get a witness) to my daily ingestion for the 90 days I was on it - one reason being that it wasn't feasible for me to get to her office every day, at the time.

Press- skipping doses is a bad idea, per the pamphlet, per dr's instructions I assume you got, per personal experience from me....can you talk to your dr about coming in every day and maybe trying a different accountability (see mine above to Dee) if getting to her/him is going to be a problem?

Lastly- IMO and IME, Antabuse (and any other drug, like the others I take now since I only took Antabuse for 90 days when I started my sobriety), are ONLY tools that support our underlying decision not to drink, period. I did not rely on them to get or keep me sober - that's what step 1, my decision to permanently quit drinking and my AA program do for me.

You CAN do this- hope you focus on a program of recovery and stick around here.
