Problem Drink

Hey all,

Well I now know I need to do something about my drinking.

I dont need to drink everyday and sometimes I can only have a few but....

When I get in that mode I sink god knows how much and im constatly getting into bother. Ive been in trouble with police numerous times and have so many stories now its unbelivable (you wouldnt believe half of it) - all of which are my fault but alchohol is the reason I act that way.

I am now waking up with injuries not knowing how they happen in any and black out everytime i drink like that.

I dont live in a society where it's easy not to drink, but I cannot control it.

I doubt I can go sober forever but I just cannot control how much at all. It's never enough.

First post so hi i guess.

Hi Maclec. What gets you in that frame of mind to drink to excess? Have you been able to identify any patterns?

Hello and welcome. I very much relate to mysterious injuries that I don't remember how I got.

Quitting was the best thing I ever did. I couldn't imagine life without alcohol, I have heard many people say they feel that way.

In all honesty probably boredom. I work away a lot so struggle to find clubs for things id like to do.

So a weekend its hit the bottle time and who knows what happens after that.

Welcome to SR

If it is simply boredom then you should be able to stretch your imagination a little and find stuff to do apart from the bottle.

If it goes a little deeper than that, you're in the right place for help

Welcome maclec.

It isn't how often we drink, but what it does to us when we do. Alcohol turned me into a completely different person - a reckless & stupid one. The only way to stay away from danger was to stop all together. I'm glad you're here.

I am bad for drinking while bored as well. It’s usually the only time I drink enough to black out.

It's really scary when you know that you can't control your drinking. When I finally accepted that, I knew for sure that I had to stop drinking. I hope you decide to join us and live a sober life.

That was an easy one for me. The first drink set me off to drink to excess. If I never had the first drink I would have been fine, but I seemed unable to make that happen.

I finally went to AA, with the belief that there really wasnt any hope for me. I didn expect to recover so I never even took a note of the date of my last drink. That was 37 years ago, and havent needed to drink in all that time. I guess that looks like forever. I didn't think I would last 37 days.
