Alcohol and Cancer I recently watched a British documentary titled "The Truth About Alcohol" It stated that Britain has lowered the "safe" number of drinks for men from 2 down to 1 serving per day. This was due to the fact that alcohol causes cancer. I believe there is no safe number. Yesterday I received the news that my sister-in-law has cancer. She was a moderate (1-2 drinks) daily drinker. Alcohol is a slow poison. |
There is a safest number, zero would eliminate any danger (s) caused by consumption. There are low levels of naturally occurring alcohol in various foodstuffs, but eliminating the purposeful consumption of 'alcoholic' beverages is the safest way to avoid any potential harm. |
Thanks, lynnmarie. I had not seen that report. I hope that many, many see it and take serious heed. |
dwtbd - unfortunately this is not the place to advise us to turn back the clock...we have all consumed alcohol. ;-) |
Hcw I may have missed the meaning of the OP, I was simply pointing that zero consumption is the safest level. Lm123 I'm sorry to hear about your sister in law. Was her drinking determined to be a contributing factor ? |
I'm sorry to hear about your sisterinlaw - prayers for you and all the family lynnmarie. D |
I don't see how someone can make such a leap. Someone diagnosed with cancer (happens every day, is very common, and each cancer has it's own known and unknown risk factors) and deciding it was due to alcohol (and a very low consumption at that). Confused. |

There is def a link between alcohol and cancer. Here's an article I read about it a few weeks back. https://www.rt.com/uk/402507-cancer-...oking-science/ |
I think you will find that everything in excess causes cancer. Or at least it seems that way. |
Well, the bible recommends (a little wine) for the stomach. My wife does but, I never could drink just a little. Thus, I don't drink. I have also heard of the many connections with alcohol and cancer. Too much of most anything is not good. M-Bob |
The British musician Joe Jackson wrote a great song about cancer. The melody is going through my head as I type this. Google it to hear his view about what causes cancer. |
