I hope everyone is well. I have not had a chance to read the whole thread.

Well I had such an awful awful week at work. It was so bad that I called my dad on Wednesday night and told him I was quitting. He talked me down "off the ledge" so to speak and told me to carry on, that I'm doing "a great job and it looks bad on a C.V. to leave a job under 2 years". Unfortunately I work in a public hospital and there are waiting lists for every single thing. I do get tired of the phone and listening to people's sob stories and people telling me this and that and the other. And I know I'm too soft with people. One mother calls me every single day about a tonsillectomy date for her daughter, who has only been on the waiting list for 3 weeks. Meanwhile I have booking forms going back 2 years. I wasn't even working here then.
I did manage to talk to my consultant who was very understanding when I told him that I'm feeling the pressure. Meanwhile there are cancer patients who I have trouble getting a bed for. Anyway the two of us had a chat and he was very nice. He told me to tell this lady to stop phoning as she can't skip the queue, sorry. He also asked me about my wrist and I'm pleased that I can sit down with him now and actually have a proper chat together. When I first met him over a year ago I was so intimidated that I could not look him in the eyes. Unfortunately I can never hide my feelings as they are written all over my face and I remember he came to me on my second day and sat beside me and said "I'm glad you look a little calmer than yesterday!"

After work I went to Jalan Jalan (my favourite place)! It's an Asian Street Food type restaurant in Galway. It was extremely busy there and the people who arrived just after me got up and left as they were not being served fast enough. The waiter actually said to me "thank you for your patience and understanding". Sure what else would I be doing on a busy Friday night in Galway? We are all in this together. Their Hallowe'en decorations were extremely cool too! I could not get a picture of the "spiders and cobwebs" on the ceiling, only the decorative candle on my table. A while ago I would never have dreamed of going out to eat by myself. Look at me, I'm growing.

Yay for you Tetra! Even though you had a tough week, it sounds like you had some really positive stuff happening too.

Great opener, MD. Thank you so much for sharing!! 5 years, incredible!!

lava, happy happy birthday!!

I'm totally in for a Sober weekend!! I love waking up refreshed, sometimes energized but most importantly not wondering wtf I did the night before, or how I got into my bed.

Day 20 here. No desire, no cravings, no withdrawal... Just simply had enough. Maybe down the road my AV voice will speak, but until then I'm living 1 day at a time. Trying to way more present.

My favorite word is "no".
No, I don't want to celebrate your birthday tonight. (a night of alcohol and drugs)
No, I don't want to go to the bar with you.
No, I don't want to hang out
No, no, no.
I've lost friends, ya know the fake drinking only friends. Amen!!!

But, I also like YES

Yes, I'll do the laundry any day of the week so I don't have to waste an entire day on the weekend while hungover just to leave the clothes in 4 baskets and pick through it during the week.
Yes, I'll pick you up if you can't drive (only my real friends, or boyfriend)
Yes, child I'll read many books to you every single night before bed.
Yes, baby boy we can go do something Saturday morning.
Yes, I'll work on Saturdays because I won't be hung over.
Yes, I'll work out at least 5 days a week
Yes, I'll try super hard to wake up early - not a morning person.
Yes, I'll go to bed at a decent hour and not 4 am.
Yes, yes, yes!!!

Welcome weekenders.

Peace!

Great post DC17,
I like to focus on the good stuff. It is definitely the good stuff that keeps me on the bus, rather than my ability to resist a hankering for the bad stuff.
I like this group. Do you post every weekend?

Hi, Weekenders!

I've had rather decent sleep.

So, it's here. I am officially 5 years sober)

Dee - Thank you for the advice. You are right. I work mostly from home and it's important to organize my working space properly. A list is a good idea. I think yesterday I somewhat let emotions get the best of me. I've been thinking about building my "writing nook" for quite a while for now. So, let a chair be the first element in it.)

Tetra - Good to see you. Sorry yo had hard time at work. But you found the way to deal with it and unwind. You are growing.

Welcome, Dreamcather! - I like your list of Yes and No. It's been part of my sobriety journey - to get to know my "Hell, yes", and "Hell, No".

Downthepath - Yes, we post every weekend and beyond. The thread for every weekend starts on Thursday and runs the entire week. It was originally started by Mecanix to help his friend to make it through a weekend. The idea was so good that others jumped on board. And the life doesn't stop after a weekend, right? So, why to stop having fun?

Time for my second cup of coffee)

Sorry to bug you with my chair issues, but I fixed my old one) Now I can take less emotional approach to it, so that temporary inconvenience doesn't freak me into a rushed decision.

Day 12 in the books

Done with a long, challenging week of work. This is only my second Friday night sober (possibly as far back as my memory serves me). I work and stay 4-5 hours away, so I got home about 10pm. It's 11:30 here. Last Friday the boyfriend was here for me and did the sober thing with me... tonight he's drinking at a friends. Really good friends, and I feel sad that I don't want to go see them because I don't want to drink. I'm not upset with him, just feeling down and a little worried our relationship won't work with me being sober. We sure have a great time together when we drink. Obviously, it isn't worth me feeling like my life is falling apart though. Anyone else dealt with this?

Welcome to the Weekenders, Juliaclare!

Congrats on your second weekend sober.

I wasn't in relationships when I quit, so I can't totally relate. Probably, it's worth exploring to find a way to have good time when you don't drink. There are lots of activities which don't require alcohol.

It's official, MB. Five.

And hey, you repaired your chair. Well done. We single women are handy at that.

The last computer chair I bought is an Aeron. It's worth it. It seems like it's a tank, like nothing on it will break. Ever.

I am back from boxing& kickboxing.

My strained hamstring still bothers me a little, but it's ok.

Thank you so much for congrats, weekenders!

Bimini - I've heard a lot about Aeron. Probably I should invest some money in it .

I am going to indulge in the next episode of Shark Tank and my dessert: coconut milk with cocoa, cherries and nuts.

See you later)
