Wow, I got to the gym twice this week! Better be careful, it could be habit forming.

Its early days but my family has more confidence in me. My wife can ask me to pick up my daughter from school and not worry all day. When I get to the school my daughter runs into my arms.
That's nice driftwood...

GlaD the weekender is alive and kicking

I am in for my 3rd weekend sober. Day 18 for me and have been working my plan.
Eating well, taking time for myself to be kind to myself and do little things that I didn't do when drinking.
I know that to stop drinking isn't enough for me so I have attended my first AA meeting.
Looking forward to looking forward

Hi, friends, I am in for the weekend. Just got back from traveling for business, and there is another large business function in my town tonight that I need to attend. Um..sober, I might add...need to attend SOBER.

What was/is hard for me to own up to is how trifling or ordinary the pains were that could make me drink, that I chose to react to by drinking. My tolerance for emotional pain was shot...I had taught myself a much lower threadhold. An emotional stubbed toe could be enough to make me drink, putting myself and others in harms way. I'm teaching myself to recognize that each difficulty does strenghten me...if I don't drink to it.

So yeah, I am having to change my life. Having to change myself. I have to admit to others, often, frequently, that I am struggling. I have to overcome my pride to deal with the humbling fact that my struggle is usually very ordinary, not worth their attention much less a drink...nevertheless I have to ask for help and struggle and deal, or things will be worse.

I loved the tide out/driftwood analogy. So much stuff to pick up. I haven't made a pretty bird out of it yet. But God help me, at least I won't be tripping over it.

I sure understand, Dee, about one more commitment being one too many...but dang, what a great opener!

Thank you Dee for the opener, thank you ALL for this thread. Now lets DO this weekend!

Hi, Bixy

Friday, huh? If you're new to sobriety or if weekends are problematic, that's what this thread is for. What are you going to do this weekend? Got plans? Maybe just comfy clothes and a blanket and popcorn in front of the TV? I did a lot of that in early days, it's like recovering from a serious illness.

I'm now in a good routine of healthy food (most of the time,) exercise, meditation, prayer, house-chores on a list (ugh) and really noticing in the moment how good life is.

Whatever time I have left will be spent sober. Every day that's one of the first things I think about. All of my dominoes would come crashing down if I were to drink again, and I never want to forget that. I'm at peace and intend to stay that way!

Jump in, lurkers.

Hi gang, congratulations on 18 days Silverback and going to AA.

Good to see you BixBees.

Nearly hometime here, I will not be staying late tonight that's for sure

I will be crazy golfing later but if you are new to recovery then going to a movie is always a good idea, in the UK at least cinemas are rarely licensed to sell alcohol and eating the sugar filled junk snacks they sell does help in the early days.

I am in for the weekend!

I haven't changed all that much about my life yet but I am trying to face the difficult things head on, instead of always running away with alcohol. It is getting easier. So I am a work in progress. Still lots of driftwood at day 105. This post has reminded me I could do more to improve my life. Thanks Dee.

SAH - thinking of you. Stay close to SR.

Just checking in again before I have to go for the day. I plan to check back in when I get home from my biz function, probably pretty late tonight.

Very encouraging and welcoming posts. Glad to be here.

I languished second or third to last at Crazy Golf, my excuse is that I was distracted by a hen party.

Such great posts here on two pages.
I create a new life by staying in and shaping the present and the future. My new life is the new me in my life. I come here more often and read and reflect and sometimes philosophize. Your stories are real and as an alcoholic I can relate. Sometimes the little words touch me more than others, just to take an example "an emotional stubbed toe ..." well for me it was exactly where I was. Every microscopic emotional challenge was too much. I read and learn. I become honest with myself I dont have all the answers. No longer in denial. I try to have my little conscious battle everytime the AV pops up. I go to a chinese massage relaxation session every two weeks. It was once a month but I decided ( I did) to make it every two weeks. I have refused some work events cause im not ready / strong enough yet. I enjoy a cup of tea again.
Lots of "I did" but "i" think this weekender OP is an "i" opener thread. .. Im not afraid to say I am so effing afraid that an av driven impulse will beat me up again / emotional management will let me down again but im still here im nearly two months again and im trying to be sincere with myself.
Its 04h14 in france. Saturday morning.
Lets have a good weekend !
Vinny.

Your right Vman, about this being an amazing support and about that devil ready, waiting and trying to beat us up again.

I like to think that all of my plan and recovery work is like a pro boxer training for a fight.
I cannot cut any corners, I cannot shirk my training regime, I cannot expect to turn up in the ring on the night having not trained and expect not to get knocked out at the very best or killed at the very worst.

I cannot allow myself to believe for a minute that I will do anything other than win.

The fight is coming at some point and there will be something else in that ring desperate to punch my lights out.

If I am well nourished, well rested with a good frame of mind and have been following my training/recovery plan then at least I stand a fighting chance when the punches start to fly!

Morning Vman!

There is a mostly alcohol free block party taking place near me today, it's all in a good cause - Amnesty International - so I will be heading down there at lunchtime.
