Is anyone there?

Sober 16 of the past 17 years. Struggling. At 4am, I don't want to wake anyone by calling.

Hi and welcome NewDawning - this is an international site so there's always someone around :)

so you returned to drinking a year ago?

D

NewDawning 09-24-2017 02:20 AM

No, I have had relapses that total about a year. I drank July 25th, 2 months ago, and while I have cut the amount in half, I'm finding it so very difficult to stop completely.

Dee74 09-24-2017 02:23 AM

Gotcha :)

You'll certainly find help and support here.

I came here about 10 years ago, drinking all day and night and losing hope - this community helped me turn my life around :)

NewDawning 09-24-2017 02:26 AM

Just having you respond puts a lump in my throat and reminds me I have never done this alone, and I don't have to now. I have tried to be of service for so many years, and now it feels I can't help myself. Thank you so much for responding. I'm desperate.

Dee74 09-24-2017 02:30 AM

If nothing else being around people who understand and who wanted to help me get better gave me some hope back.

I hope you'll feel more hopeful here too NewDawning :)

It all started with a day one for me - simple, tho not easy.

Achievable tho, with support :)

I have a feeling I'll be here a lot. I moved to an island about a year ago, knew no one, leaving all of my solid, sober support behind. I love living on tbe beach, but I think this whole island is drunk... it's started to feel normal to drink, where, for years, it was a poison. I need that mindset back.

Dee74 09-24-2017 02:39 AM

I used to live at the beach too - although I was sober then , SR was still a godsend to me.

No doubt see you around :)

Welcome to SR Newdawning :)

NewDawning 09-24-2017 02:44 AM

Thank you both...I can't explain what it means to me, being awake, again, and not alone this time.

ReadyAtLast 09-24-2017 02:58 AM

you're never alone on SR :)

I'm in the September class- set up for all people quitting this month. Maybe come join us?

NewDawning 09-24-2017 03:02 AM

I don't know much about this site yet... I'll read about the class. Is it online? Are there any groups that meet?

decchemist 09-24-2017 03:03 AM

Hello NewDawning. :)

I just had a quick check of the statistics at the bottom of the first page in the forums. There are 169,000 people signed up to SR and no doubt many lurkers. Just now nearly 500 were looking at this sub-section of the forum (again the numbers are on the front page). As Dee said, you are never alone on this forum and that means in terms of numbers AND in terms of folk who can truly empathise with you.

Welcome!

NewDawning 09-24-2017 03:15 AM

I am so grateful...I had no idea anything like this existed. I'm not going away...I have been solid in recovery and am hopeful and willing to get back there. The days I don't drink range anywhere from uncomfortable to scary. This site is the best thing that's happened to me in a long time. Thank you, so much.

Hey ND :)

The focus here is on online support and the anonymity that comes with that which many folks here prefer :)

Hi and welcome, count me in and someone here and supporting you. I just had a relapse 3 days ago, I am back at it though, like you I want to live a sober life. How are you feeling now? Do you have alcohol in the house? It would be wise to go dump it now. I know that is a difficult thing to do, but you can do it. Stay close to us here. We are all with you.

NewDawning 09-24-2017 03:39 AM

Thank you... I'll figure it out with everyone's help. I totally get the anonymity bit... that's what led me to look for something online. Admire this group already and wish I'd found you all sooner.

NewDawning 09-24-2017 03:44 AM

Yes, there are 2 of those small ("single serving" boxes that claim to have 3 five oz servings) in my house right now. I am afraid of stopping cold turkey and keep cutting it down...a very difficult process. I don't have a lot of faith in myself today. I want to be done.
