A little tale to hopefully help x

I wasn't going to post this, but if it helps one single person, then my utter embarrassment will be worth it.
I was never a daily drinker, more of a binge at the weekend, weekend warrior, type so the test results this week, have shocked me to the core.

Some of you know, I was diagnosed earlier this year (and having quit for a month), with Type 1 Diabetes. We assumed it was 'in the family' as my maternal uncle also has it. They ran tests anyway and seems I have 'calification of the pancreas, leading to chronic pancreatitis' Basically, I drank myself into this mess!

I now have to checked my blood sugar levels 4-10 times a day, inject insulin 4 times a day and the 'freedom' to just get up and go into town, go for a meal without worrying, and endless other things we all take for granted, are gone. I now have to check sugar levels before I go anywhere.

If this can happen to ME, then trust me, it can happen to any one of you! Please stop and stay stopped.

I'm not looking for sympathy, in fact I don't want it - I'm coping really well and determined not to let this change my life too much. SO please....no sympathy - that's not what this post is about.

Thanks for reading, if it helps one person, then I' m happy.

256 days and counting

X

Thanks Zanna. I have known many people in sobriety who have suffered from organ damage. Anyone who drinks to excess, alcoholic or not, is at much higher risk of these other diseases. I didn't know until recently that alcohol is in the same class of carcinogens as tobacco.

As an active alcoholic of course I heard these warnings, but I was different you see. These things were not going to happen to me. I now know differently.
