Day 2

Hello everyone, new here, I've been drinking pretty much solid for the last twenty years but lately it's been more binge drinking with a week or so, here and there in the clear. But I notice every time the detox gets worse. This time I've had serious heart palpitations which I've never experienced before alongside the usual sweats and shakes. I think it might have been the amino acid supplements I was taking. I was using L-tyrosine and DLPA for anxiety at the correct doses but they've seemed to make thinks worse. I went to see the doctor and she prescribed a short course of Xanax, enough for three days and said she'd refer me to psychiatrist for further evaluation. I'm not too happy about the benzo's but feel i have no choice at the moment. Anyway sorry about the moan. Thanks for listening.

Welcome to Soberrecovery Spud and congratulations on deciding to quit, it is the right choice. Have a good look around the site for ideas on staying quit and also what to expect (it is an extensive site) Getting sober is not easy but you will be so glad you did.

Welcome. Congrats on what is now hopefully your day 3...
I was convinced I wasn't an alcoholic yet (seems as though I was trying hard to get there in a hurry) bc I didn't have withdrawl. Then I did. And every time it got worse. Much worse. I shudder to think.
You should definitely take the meds as prescribed by your doc. Alcohol withdrawl can kill you.
By day 5.5 you should feel much better. Then you don't have to go through this ever again.
GL,
Jules

I take a lot of supplements as well. This is my own views, but when I drank heavily I always had worse and worse detoxes. Taking all of those supplements and drinking heavily is a lot for the liver to process. I take b12, a multi, vitamin c, tyrosine, fish oil, as well as under the tongue drops. That's a lot for the body to process while drinking vodka straight. JMHO

Welcome Spud,
During my drinking binges my detoxes became worse and worse too. I finally had enought, I couldn't mentally/emotionally take it anymore. So I started with AA and joined SR. I found a lot of support on this site to get me through each day, and each day got better and better. You can do this..

You can look up "kindling" just as alcoholism is progressive, so are the withdrawals. I know mine progressed from just an annoying hangover in the morning, to having full blown panic attacks for at least a day or two.
Though that's good you went to a doc and they referred you to a mental health specialist. You can ask for one that specializes in addiction as well to get you some solid footing on your recovery.
