4 days in

Hi all..I am now 4 days sober and still have the shakes, have had about 8 hours sleep in that time, I am so tired but can't sleep, also hot and cold sweats are a killer. I am 54 and have been an occasional drinker since I was 19, but then 5 years ago my kids left to spread their wings and I felt unwanted. That's when I started drinking heavily, it just spiralled from there.. Now I have started to feel the effects so I decided to stop.

Welcome Baileyboo - you found a great place for encouragement. I'm glad you see what drinking is doing to your life.

Congratulations on your 4 days sober. I still was shaky then too. Maybe you could check with your doctor to be safe? Posting & reading here will help with the anxiety. We all understand what you're going through.

Hang in there - it does get better, but as Hervyn says, it might be a good idea to check in with your doc

Hi and welcome! Day 4 can be rough. Stay hydrated and try to eat. Mild exercise helps and when you start to feel better take a shower. It may help you feel more relaxed. If you need to check with your dr. for some help.

Praying for you. We're all in this together. Think about your family. They DO need you and they want you happy and healthy. The future CAN be bright again.

Hi Bailyboo,

You've overcome the worse of the withdrawal, it will start dying down. I'm on my 5th to 6th day and still have mild shakes, anxiety and insomnia but my symptoms have subsided considerably since the 4th day.
It's harder when you can't get that sleep in. I've had trouble too and felt it prolonged the withdrawal process.
Congrats on deciding to quit and welcome to SR!

Hi. Welcome.
I feel like 5 was the upswing.
Four whole days feeling like that was horrible. But you did it! You don't ever have to do it again. It helps to remember how terrible you feel niw when you crave a drink (which gets less intense and frequent)
You're doing great!!
GL,
Jules

Thanks for the support coming to the end of day 5 and I slept for 5 hours last night, longest sleep all week. Still got the shakes but not as bad.. So glad I found this site, with your support I am more in the right frame of mind than if I was doing this on my own. Thanks xxx

It's good that you got some sleep, Baileyboo - that was a huge problem for me in the early days. Less shaky and 5 days sober - thing are looking up.

I was feeling pretty bad at 4 days also. Keep with it.
