What makes this time different to all the other times I've tried to quit?

Hey there soberfriends

So, I was thinking about why on this occasion, does my soberiety seem to be sticking and I think for me, it's the realisation that being sober is not a magic bullet to solve all my problems.

Whenever I quit before I basically thought not pouring the liquid down my throat was pretty much the whole story. However, that's just not the case.

So this time alongside not drinking I also started doing things to try to solve the route causes of my drinking and I started dealing with issues head on as best I could.

I'm still learning of course, and there have been unexpected bumps along the way, such as losing friends and readjusting to the changes in the world, but unlike before where I would say "I'm sober and I'm still sad, might as well drink" I've tried to deal with these problems like an adult and work through them.

I think the most important thing I've learned is not drinking is the first and most important step, but it is not the only step.

I feel the same way. Its like you know you can no longer deal with life that way- so you have no choice but to face it head on... Its quite rewarding actually.

You've got a recovery plan and haven't just stopped drinking. That's great and the key.
