when i stopped living in the problem and began living in the solution, the problem went away.
Men and women drink essentially because they like the effect produced by alcohol. The sensation is so elusive that, while they admit it is injurious, they cannot after a time differentiate the true from the false. To them, their alcoholic life seems the only normal one. They are restless, irritable and discontented, unless they can again experience the sense of ease and comfort which comes at once by taking a few drinks-drinks which they see others taking with impunity. After they have succumbed to the desire again, as so many do, and the phenomenon of craving develops, they pass through the well-known stages of a spree, emerging remorseful, with a firm resolution not to drink again. This is repeated over and over, and unless this person can experience an entire psychic change there is very little hope of his recovery.
On the other hand-and strange as this may seem to those who do not understand-once a psychic change has occurred, the very same person who seemed doomed, who had so many problems he despaired of ever solving them, suddenly finds himself easily able to control his desire for alcohol, the only effort necessary being that required to follow a few simple rules.
Head, stay around the boards here until you are able to talk to your sponsor or take a break. I know how difficult it can seem at a time like this, but don't let go. You will get through this.
Hedd, You're definitely not alone. Emotions all over the place - that's normal. I felt scared & panicky when I first came here too. Things got so much better when I got some sober time behind me. You're among friends - I hope you'll keep reading & posting.
it helped me focus on the 1st step and eventually accepted the 1st step.
for some reason, and i dont know why, but when i accepted the 1st step, there was a sense of......hhhhmmmm........ relief?? that came into me.
Hedd,
Start doing push ups until you can't do anymore. Then do sit ups till you can't do anymore. Then do squats...then go back to push ups.
Your body will take over your mind. You stress will be nulled out.
Do that for about 10 minutes.
You get adrenaline and endorphins. Natural high.
Thanks.
