Hi, Friday lunchtime and what could be my last solo lunchtime. Next week the firm are trying an experiment of a communal lunchtime, the reasoning behind it is to get everyone communicating better which seems sound thinking.

Thanks Sao! Great post! During the first few months of my recovery I wondered if the cravings would ever stop. Would I have to live the rest of my life (without alcohol) feeling this way? Why quit if I have to feel this way forever? Like you Sao, my cravings DID subside around the 90-100 day mark. Eventually the obsession to drink began to fade and instead of craving throughout the day, I experienced short periods of thinking about drinking. What a relief! For those of you who are beginning your recovery, hang in there and do NOT pick up...no matter what! Otherwise, you start the clock all over again and it will take that much longer to get the relief you're looking for. You WILL get there, just keep working your plan and use your tools to move past urges.

I'm still on vacation. My first vacation without booze has been doable. I can't say I haven't thought about drinking...but I've been able to move past any thoughts of relapsing...there's absolutely no way I will give in and ruin the progress I've made. The urges have been fleeting and manageable, nothing I can't handle.

The first night we were here, a couple across from our room at the hotel were obviously drunk...fighting and swearing at each other...reminded me of so many vacations DH and I have been on in which booze ruined what could have been a great vacation. All I could think of was "There by the grace of God go I". Then took a deep sigh and thanked God that I will never have to be that person again.

Enjoy the weekend sober friends!

I've had the week from hell. Hospital at a complete standstill due to overcrowded A&E department. All non essential procedures cancelled. Then my consultant comes to me on Wednesday with an emergency biopsy to be added to his theatre list today. I didn't think it would be a problem until I was told that due to staff shortages the day ward would not take him. There is one reason only why he ever comes to me with an emergency add on. And that is cancer.

So I spent all Wednesday morning ringing around begging any ward, anyone to accept him. I'm up against a brick wall every single time. It's all "I don't know" or "I don't care" or "I don't want" or "I don't think" or "not my job" or "nothing to do with me".

Eventually I got him admitted to the surgical day ward.

On top of that my consultant is on annual leave next week. I have emails which state which ever consultant is taking over his main theatre list also has to cover his day ward list where he does the very minor procedures.?

The female consultant (who shall be known as "The Princess") who is doing it told me she would take the main theatre list but not the day ward, after I had already booked people in. She told some one about me that "Tetra really overstepped the mark by assuming I would cover the day ward".

I went home and thought about that. First off this is the first time in my life where I was told I overstepped anything - and it feels amazing - and I didn't over step anything. I have emails which clearly state who ever is covering also takes the day ward.

My consultant may be a grumpy old curmudgeon but if there is work to be done he rolls up the sleeves and gets on with it. And so do I. I give 110% to that job. I did hear that at a management meeting my consultant had a right go at "the princess". He lost the head completely and called her lazy. Which is exactly what she is.

I told my father that I "over stepped the mark" and he laughed and told me I should do it more often. That I spent most of my life avoiding any kind of confrontation that it's nice to see a spark, a fire beginning to take hold within me.

At least I'm on holidays now until next Thursday. Let the games begin!

Just dump the resolution, Julia.

Hang around here for as long as you're awake!

I know I'll be on and off here throughout the evening because my family is out of town. Hopefully there will be lots of encouraging stuff from people--plus, I'll be both here and on PM if you wanted to write it down.

Julia, here's an idea:

Go to the last forum on the board, "Recovery Follies," and read through the thread, "The Lighter Side."

That will get your mind off of beating yourself up.

Wow! I just made a gigantic typo to you, Julia!

I meant to say , "Dump the REST!"

What autocorrect said was, "Dump the RESOLUTION!"

I did not mean that!

Definitely hold tight to the resolution not to drink!
