OK, What gives....PLEASE Enlighten me?!

Ok.......17 days No alcohol and 10 days cold turkey off nicotine and this is the worst day Ive had!! I was a 1/2 to 3/4 of a bottle wine drinker and about the same with ciggy's......for last 10 years. I really have had only a couple of bad craving days and yesterday was one......hormones, possibly????

Wow.
Gave up cigs and alcohol simultaneously?
Do you have superpowers?
That is so seriously great.
Eat when you are hungry, stay hydrated, maybe some gentle exercise?
Keep it up. You will feel better.
Promise.

It seems that you are very lucky with your lack of withdrawal symptoms. Congratulations on 17 days of sobriety.

A couple of posts were removed. Respect is essential. This is a safe place.

Just me, wrandi, but I don't think they meant it disrespectfully.
Just didn't come out right, I think.
Anyway, good for you and hang in there.
Meant what I said about eating, lots of fluids, and gentle exercise, especially putside in fresh air.
It really does help.
Here when you need us.

Thank you Maudcat! You can have as many different physical and/or emotional responses to quitting drinking as there are humans. No one does it the same and for me, it all came a crashing in today! Thanks again!

I think everyone is wired differently. When I decided to quit I did not crave any alcohol. I quit cigarettes the same day. I just had enough and it was now or never attitude that has got my through.

17 days is great Wrandi! In my experience emotions can turn on a knife edge for quite some time (hormones don't help either!). Keep going and please try and be patient. Your body and mind is going through a lot. Take care ❤❤❤

Congrats on your days! It took me a few months to stop freaking out about not being able to drink. I was actually thinking about that this afternoon after I bought liquor for my party tomorrow night. I can still "drink" I just can't drink booze anymore and if I had to choose for either booze or water to just go extinct which would I choose to stick around? Water of course! As it's a need not a want. I'm using that thought as a sober 'tool' over the next few days. I'm also planning on stopping smoking, but I'm going to wait another month or two.. Take care!

You can do this Wrandi1! Cravings don't last forever. Actually it sounds like you are doing really well.

Well done on giving up both alcohol and cigarettes. t's not unusual for the cravings to hit kind of hard a few weeks or even months after quitting, so don't feel like you're doing something wrong.

The cravings will pass and eventually subside, but when the cravings come, I've found it helpful to remind myself that they are temporary, and that although they are uncomfortable, they won't hurt me.

You may also want to use a mental technique called urge surfing. It has worked for me: http://choosehelp.com/topics/recovery/cravings-mindfulness-urge-surfing

Glad you shared and great going!

It takes time to heal what we damaged when drinking smoking, whatever it was we did harming ourselves. Keep going! It gets better and better.

Emotions are definitely something that I learned, progressively, to handle much better and went through waves of all kinds of them! I am much more even now (just past 18 mo sober) and better able to handle the upsetting stuff.

Hope to keep seeing you here!
