Anyone going to watch the Solar Eclipse?

I would imagine this will be a great event. Make sure you protect your eyes!:c005:

I live in the path of totality, so yes!

DearPrudence 08-19-2017 08:09 PM

Hoping to do the pinhole viewing thing (something I did as a child), but it's also looking to be cloudy in my part of the world, so may have to watch it on CNN. Ugh.

Friends are going to St. Louis, and I have other friends that live in Oregon.

Hopefully you get cloudless weather Rascal!

We get 70% here.

Outonthetiles 08-19-2017 11:40 PM

Yes, I'm in the path of near-totality.
I got out my glacier glasses, but everyone is saying not to use them, you'll go blind.
You'll shoot your eye out kid.

We get to see a partial eclipse where I am. I don't have the special glasses so may just watch the world get dark from my window. It is exciting though, i love astronomy.

I remember that as well when I was a kid. I hope mother nature sends you a clear sky.

We are supposed to have clear skies in Calgary Alberta Canada. Here is hoping. Our weather turns on a dime though. Mountains predict the weather here.

WOW...I did not hear that. They are all sold out here everywhere. Hope this is not the case. :-(

Even that will be exciting. You are still apart of this.

Chilledice 08-20-2017 04:46 AM

OH YES!!

Although not sure what it will be like in the UK

Maudcat 08-20-2017 04:50 AM

We will be able to see some of it.
Couldn't get glasses.everywhere was sold out, sooo.
i guess I will experience the darkness.
I have welding glass, but I have read that that isn't appropriate.

Chilledice 08-20-2017 04:55 AM

I just found out that the uk will only see the moon covering 10 percent of the sun :(

Seren 08-20-2017 05:00 AM

In the path of 100% coverage during totality. I do have eclipse glasses, and they are so dark that you pretty much can't see anything with them on except the sun.

Snufkin 08-20-2017 05:04 AM

Yeahh unfortunately the total eclipse will not be visible from the UK, but we will be able to see a partial eclipse, if it's not too cloudy. But I live in Scotland so I don't count on it :D

Dee74 08-20-2017 05:05 AM

I'll watch it online :)

D

South Wales here....it never rains it pours lol

Wholesome 08-20-2017 05:27 AM

Yes! I've bought us all some eclipse glasses and have been looking forward to it. I think it's going to be amazing and there is no way I will be missing it.

Carpathia 08-20-2017 05:42 AM

We are in the path of 75% totality.

I don't have glasses, but I did learn of an interesting way, other than the pinhole view, of seeing the eclipse happen indirectly.

The shadow cast by the moon will leave a crescent shape on the shadows on the ground. If you turn your back to the sun, spread your fingers wide and place one hand on top of the other (not sure why that's part of the instruction), the shadows you see on the ground will be crescent shaped.

Illustrating this idea, I saw a photo of the shadows cast by tree leaves on the ground. It was taken during an eclipse. Each tree leaf shadow seemed to have a crescent aspect to it.

I'll definitely be outside checking it out while it's happening even if I can't look directly at the sun!
