Exclamation Hey Sunshine !

I'm sorry if the thread confused you Sunshine.

It's not actually my thread - it's the continuation of an earlier thread.

Its not really my thang but people, especially newcomers, seem to want to know where they sit on the bell curve....

Please know tho

There is no volume requirement for posting here, or for declaring alcoholism.

I started out not drinking at all. Then I started becoming a weekend drinker.

That gradually got pushed back to starting on Thursday nights, then Wednesday...then I was drinking every night, then every day and finally around the clock.

I look back now and I see I was an alcoholic through all those phases.

I really believe it's not so much how much you drink as it is what happens to you when you do.

I've known people who drank more than I did, who still drink that way and will never think of stopping, much less searching out SR.

I know people who drank way less than me - some from SR - who are dead now....

Please don't think that if you're not drinking as much as some that means you mustn't be alcoholic...

And please don't think that if you're not drinking around the clock, you can maybe risk a few more relapses.

That's your AV talking ****, Sunshine.

Mine changed over the years. For the first 5 or so, I was an everyday drinker, taking maybe a day off once a week or two only because I was too natious to drink that day.
After having an alcohol related health scare, my GF at the time told me I needed to stop drinking whiskey and to cut it down (she was one of those "beer and wine are ok, but hard alcohol is only for drunks" types) so I switched to beer only and went to every other day.
This went on for about 3 years until we ended up splitting, and I slowly got back to drinking about 4-5 times a week for another 3 years. Then I made the lovely discovery that I could stop feeling like crap the next day, if I simply kept drinking. From there I went on about 5 day 24/7 drinking benders, then 2-3 days off from feeling like absolute hell. This went on for about 6 months until I had the mother of all benders, and went through the most horrific withdrawal with some DT's, hallucinations, and other terrible things. It was truly one of the, if not the most horrifying experience of my life.
Of course as a dumb alcoholic, I went back to drinking a few weeks later with a moderation program in place which worked for a little while to keep it to weekends, or 3 days a week only, which lasted for a few months, until I just had it with fighting with the alcohol.

Most of my end days drinking were round the clock slugs.

I always had a problem to varying and worsening degrees.

It was all fun, games, and part of our lifestyle/culture to drink, everyday, quite a bit, and party hard.
The fun stopped when the shakes started and stopping no longer felt like an option. That was about almost 4 years ago.

Thank you Dee.... I'm an episode drinker. When I drink there is usually an episode. So I when I do drink, usually it feels so good that I keep it going to oblivion. Until I pass out I guess... Fortunately I'm cursed with horrible hangovers and could never imagine drinking 2 days in a row. I've tried the hair of the dog and it always ends in puking. Not a 2 beer kind of girl. :-)

Daily drinker since November of 2014 when now ex-wife told me she still had feelings for the man she had left me for in 1996. All those years wasted... At least I got to spend some time with the kids though they won't have anything to do with me now. Daily soberer now!

6 to 8 pints an evening sometimes 12 and the odd double whiskies thrown in for good measure.

Was either stop or commit suicide or the booze would kill me.....I chose life.

I started out as a binge drinker. Rarely drank. Then I started drinking more. Then every weekend. Then some nights during the week. Then every night during the week. Then during the day time. Then 24/7. Alcoholism is progressive.

Every day, although in varying amounts. Had a hangover almost every day though.

That was me. It starts out innocently enough, then next thing you know it's 7:30 a.m. and I'm beginning to shake, and slamming a bottle of wine before 10 a.m. Disgusting.

That truly was hell on earth.

Mine was weird. I had a point where I did drink wine every night. However, towards the end I would only drink maybe once a week, but it would be a HUGE quantity that I couldn't predict/control and my hangover would last me days. (between one or two bottles of wine, which is a lot for me because I am petite) Each time I would say it was the last time, but it kept happening over and over again. It was a vicious cycle and felt like a prison sentence.

Three bottles of wine. Every night.

6pm was 'wine o'clock'....

I'm back on Day 24 now after a relapse. I don't know what the future holds? I'm just taking it a day at a time and hoping I never submit to that madness again.

I would drink 4-5 days straight and then quit forever for a day, and then repeat.

Drank 6-7 days /week. Usually at least a 6 pack on weekdays and on weekends triple that amount plus a few beers in the mornings to stop the shakes.

I checked every second day, but there would be weeks when I'd drink most, but not all days. Kind of depended on how hungover from the drinking days I was. Toward the very end I did drink almost every day. But I went years with a day on, a day off.

I was thinking about this very thing earlier. What spurred it was looking at my sobriety calculator which I hadn't looked at in a while.

Prior to quitting I honestly can't tell you when the last day was that I didn't have a drink. The longest period of time I would not be drinking was around 16 hours. Most of those 16 hours I was probably still drunk from the previous 8 hours of drinking.

My calc shows 28,217 hours of sobriety now. Looking at that and comparing it to my previous record of 16 hours is pretty darn humbling.

Everyday. From wake up till past midnight, either a dozen half liter cans of stout or half a dozen 6.5% tallboys of dark ale with a few cans.

Ten years of it.

Had to have stout instead of coffee in the morning for fear of being sick. Used
to be sick, then keep drinking. Used to sit in the carpark at work and drink
at 5.30 am in the car before i went in.

Got to the point i was driving to work, going past work to the
hospital beacause i couldnt feel my hands. Ending up in resuss
in the hospital, getting loaded up on benzos and going to work and
having to lie and try and get through the day.

Constant panick attacks,digestive problems when i ate,which
i wasnt doing. Just constantly being sick. Spending 300 dollars
plus on the stuff too each week. Even when i stopped working i just
started selling things and drinking the money.

Glad these days are 16days behind me and counting.

Now i'm blowing the money on herbal tea. Go figure. haha

I drank at least 4 beers a night, often drank a 6 pack and got in the car to go get more. 2 Mimosas at brunch on Saturday/Sunday, then drank beer all day watching football on weekends. Out at dinner, always bought at least a bottle of wine. Last time I was at South Beach in Miami I sat on the beach and was brought 7 beers for the afternoon. Got up and went out to dinner like that was normal.
I am so glad I stopped drinking al together!
