Natural AD ..

I have been a "daily drinker" for at least 15 years plus.. on average 4 -5 glasses of wine a night. (Often more..)

I suppose it suddenly hit me that I could not face one night without a drink.. and it was certainly affecting my health and relationships. (My father was a violent alcoholic - so I know all about excess!)

But now I am 8 days down .. and the last 2 days have been SO hard! I am so depressed.. can anyone recommend a natural AD that also helps with cravings? I have lost my "sparkle"... and cant stop thinking about it.

This is certainly way harder than I thought it would be.

Hello IngsEd

I am new here too and on day 10. Keep yourself busy and keep reading and posing here. It's helping me and there are lots of nice people who contribute. Stick with it.

Hi and welcome IngsEd :)

There are some tips on dealing with cravings here:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-cravings.html

There are meds that some doctors prescribe for cravings but you're best to discuss that with your own doctor.

As for natural anti depressants - I think withdrawal is a very emotional time and it's pretty common to feel a little down and depressed.

Having said that I get good anti depression results from sunshine and exercise :)

Good nutrition and decent sleep obviously help too.

Have no fear - this is not the best it gets - you will regain your 'sparkle' :)

Hi IngsED,

I had pretty much the same realisation as you 7 or so years of daily wine drinking, at the end two bottles a night then starting in the morning on weekends.

Those early days/weeks are tough as our bodies withdraw and seek to find a new status quo, hang in there and do not give up. Your sparkle will come back. With each new day sober, you will feel better and stronger.

Dee is right, the best is yet to come. Be ready to be amazed at what you can do sober :)
