I have no cravings and it is terrifying me. Does it mean AA works?
I have no cravings and it is terrifying me. Does it mean AA works?
I started an AA program 3 weeks ago and since I met my sponsor I have not had any desire to drink. It is so bizarre and weird, that I'm actually scared. Mainly scared because why would my cravings just disappear? Also blessed that they have disappeared but nervous they will come back strong and I'll drink again.
I really threw myself going to 6 meetings a week in my spare time. Getting around 50 phone numbers and meeting a lot of people. Maybe it's seeing that I am not alone and seeing the strong community of young people who have the same disease?

Some people have their spiritual experience this way. I had to get through step 7 to have my cravings disappear. This is when step 2 came to life and I began to believe a power greater than I exists.
Keep moving forward!!!
Keep moving forward!!!
sounds to me like you've been working really hard Chiquen and that hard work is bringing rewards
I was scared too when I realised that I might actually be able to be sober for good.
I'd been down so long I was scared of feeling happy because I was sure it would be taken away from me - but ten years on I'm still happy and sober

good on ya for starting AA and very glad the mental obsession has subsided. im also glad to read you have a little fear over it.
and heres the reson:
i have seen many people come into AA and get on a pink cloud very quicklike.
then
an unexpected bill comes in the mail.
theres a rough day at work.
the children act up.
or something similar- basically an event/occasion that has to be dealt with that drinking was a solution for in the past.the pink cloud disappears and they drink again.
im not sure if its the pink cloud, a spiritual awakening is occuring, or maybe that you could be feeling some comfort in knowing there are others that have been in your shoes and there is a solution.
but id strongly encourage getting into the steps and working them.

Support, distraction, honeymoon phase-- who cares? It is working. The thing that scares me a lot- is relapse if I get complacent. Pay attention to the anxiety over not having cravings (they go away anyway)- but do not obsess over it.
Support to you.
Support to you.

I am 17+ months sober and have had zero physical cravings. None. I had one "mental craving" of sorts when I toyed with the barest details of a plan to go out and have some wine (ha). That was on 90 days exactly, ironically.
Does AA work? IMO yes; it doesn't really have to do with cravings per se - I know plenty of people with different amounts of society who describe having them. I consider myself fortunate- and I work an incredibly dedicated program, so I do indeed feel my problem has been removed. Part of my daily routine is reading pp 84-88 and 417-418. These focus on acceptance, and maintenance of spiritual fitness and also the problem being removed.
Sounds like you are working a strong program (remember- having numbers is great - it's USING them when we need to that is most important!). Keep going!

The GIFT of recovery that keeps
on giving. It Works If We Work It..!!!
With many one days sober down the
road coming up on 27yrs., my journey
in recovery is by far not over. I cant
wait to experience more awesome gifts
and promises granted to each of us
the longer we all remain sober.
That was the HOPE so many passed
on to me many yrs ago as I pass them
on to you too.
