The Musts
I must pat myself on the back for day 9, but not hard enough to forget there is a demon around the next minute who wants tempt me. I must think no farther than the next 12 hours. I must separate the grey matter from my spirit as the first is an unruly child that wants to drink and doesn't care about the consequences. My spirit, though grown shy, wants to save me, to teach me, to hug me, to wipe away my tears. I must sever any and all romantic attachments to the juice and call their name out loud when they come around and shame them unmercifully. For that is exactly what the demon has brought me...shame, sadness and remorse. It is my spirit that will still be here when alcohol maims my brain, liver,body..I must listen to my spirit! |
