Good morning. Had a nice long walk with my daughter and the dog last night. We had a good chat. She is in a good place right now and is really doing well. She's picked up her art work and other interests and is starting to think again about her future.

Played golf this morning, the real thing not Crazy Golf. Broke 90, i'll take that. 15 for a round so good value. The clubhouse was perdictably full of boozy old bores, what is it about golf that seems to attract them like moths to a light?

Last time I played real golf was 20 years ago. My wife introduced me to the game and we'd play together regularly. Although I don't understand her attraction to it, she would get so mad at her game. When the kids came, we stopped playing. I use to play with a borrowed set of old Jack Nicolas Golden Bears.

Thank you sunshine.

Golf and drinking were inexorably linked for me which is why I no longer play much. My golfing buddies do still drink but they were not problem drinkers like me.

Weekend over for me as the shop locally is about to close - second weekend sober. It was easier this weekend than last weekend.

Hope you've all had a wonderful sober weekend too X

I'm not in good form at all tonight.
My wrist is still paining a little. I am due to go for a check up on Monday 14th and hopefully get rid of the splint but I can't see that happening just yet.

My boss is off an two weeks holidays now - his daughter is getting married next week. "Daddy's Little Princess" - and no expense will be spared I guess since she, hubby-to-be and daddy are all doctors.

I admit that I try so hard to be a good person but there is a bit of blackness in me too. I was out walking around today and I saw all these people and I wondered how do some people manage to sail through life with no huge problems (the "Golden People") and then there is me who has to battle for everything and my life is still a complete mess.

On a different topic, is it ok to block people from Whatsapp? I went out with a guy twice about 8 months ago, didn't hear from him for months and then he started texting again. I responded briefly during the week and then asked him to leave me alone. Then he texted every single night this week which I ignored after he started asking questions which made me extremely uncomfortable. I used to dread the sound of my phone pinging. Tonight he texted again so I told him to leave me alone and blocked him. The thing I am slightly concerned about is that he knows where I live and I have seen him at my corner shop once or twice.

I am actually very very tired of being made to feel bad. From now on I am just going to do things my way and people can just get over themselves.

Congratulations on two weeks Susiegirl.

I think most people do have problems from time to time Tetra but they don't confide them. I certainly have not let anyone at work no the extent of my drinking. I hope your wrist feels better soon.

Not looking forward to work tomorrow as the boss is off for a week. Fortunately it is quiet so I won't be under too much pressure.

I hope everyone made it through the Weekend OK, it is so worth it.

We all look forward to BFD's at my place of employment. (Boss Free Day). Our manager can be a bit of a whirlwind, we can actually be more productive on our stuff when he's not around.

Ruby good to see you!

The weekend is over, caraaaazy busy, which is a good thing.

Sao, I've pondered your beginner to the thread and couldn't get it out of my head. Alcohol is romanticized to the core and even feeling really good about sobriety my head can still play the danger game.

The first Friday of every month is First Friday Art Walk here. I work on the main stretch in the city. When I get out of work on this day every month there's a plethora of people traversing the sidewalks where artists and craftsmen display their wares. There's usually outdoor music and the atmosphere is very party like. Also, there must be a bar about every 10 feet in this city. Yes, a minor exaggeration but still, close.

I come out the doors at work, into the square, and hear the music. I look around and see all the happy people, bebopping around, laughing, and smiling. I head to my parking garage, walking past the four (yes four) bars and restaurants that have outdoor seating. I smell the food, I hear the laughter. It's balmy and warm, a real sit outside and party kind of night. I make it to the parking garage and a girl is walking by me. She's beautiful, her hair is blowing gently in the slight, warm breeze. It's easy to tell where she's headed, to meet up with friends and to sit outside and relax, having a few drinks. I begin to reminisce about those days. The excitement towards the end of the day on Friday when plans had been made. The flutter of my heart as I looked at the clock, in anticipation. then......

My glazed over eyes clear and I realize what I was doing. I remembered this post. How alcohol is romanticized and here I was, buying into it for a moment. I laughed. I quickly reminded myself of the reality where the evening would have ended were I that girl. It most certainly would have been a disaster. Since when was drinking ever fun for me?

It's Monday and I had a very full, fun, productive weekend. I wasn't sick, I opened my eyes each morning to a day where the world was my oyster and I could do with it what I wished.

I'm grateful for this thread. The remembrance of it brought me back.

I'm happy for those who made it through and for those who had difficulty or didn't, keep at it. This does get easier and it's so worth it!

So my wife tells me that she had a drinking dream last night - about me drinking and trying to pretend I wasn't.

Fantastic post LadyBlue, the promise of alcohol is so different to the reality of it . It's like thoce motor car adverts that show youngish people in their car heading off to do something fun on EMPTY ROADS! Meh.

Boss Free Week has been rather dull so far which is a good thing as far as i'm concerned. It's being asked to make the decisions that he normally makes that gets me stressed but so far I haven't had to make any.

Just a vent...

When I started getting serious about sobriety back in 2013 I opened up to my younger brother. During those discussions I was surprised when he told me his long-time boyfriend was having alcohol issues. Over the years he texts me from time to time to tell me what new approach the BF is taking - usually something involving a moderation attempt. If it is an attempt to stop altogether, they are typically short-lived. They all fail quickly, of course.

He texted me yesterday to say BF's drinking has gone "next level" this summer. They just took a vacation together and BF wrecked it with his non-stop drinking.

It breaks my heart my brother is dealing with this, and puts a different perspective on what I was putting my family through for years and years.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I did!
