Proud, Relieved and Thank You!
My work summer party was on last night, which also doubled as my 'leaving drinks' as my last day is today. The venue was fabulous and there was a free bar for the entire night.
For the first 2 hours, I battled intensely with my AV - 'maybe just a glass (or two?) of wine will be fine' .. 'it's my leaving party, and the summer party, I deserve to let my hair down'. I am SO happy and proud to say that after grappling with these misleading thoughts, my commitment to sobriety won through and I didn't touch a drop of alcohol for the night. I had just as much fun (more, actually, as I don't have to worry about what I may have said and to whom, was I messy, the hangover this morning, eating bad food), I am down in weight this morning for having stuck to my diet and not eaten any of the canapés, and I feel so happy and, although a bit tired, I am fresh for my last day at work, so that I can leave on a good note and with no regrets.
I have to thank you all because in those moments where the AV was strongest, I thought of this community, and drew strength.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support and encouragement you give here, and for sharing your experiences and guidance.
I'll now have 7 weeks in 2 days and I could not be happier for that :-)
